Would expect that to be a 5-4-1 from Schalke, Mendyl dropping in on the left. Not a single defender on the bench for the hosts. pic.twitter.com/4Xjk85QEgz— Archie Rhind-Tutt (@archiert1) February 20, 2019
Was just about to say, this looks like a crazy defensive lineup by Schalke. They're going to get battered for the entire match and hope for McKennie to get on the end of a set piece.
Another odd Tedesco lineup. 3 CBs, check: Nastasic, Sane, Burma. 2 WBS, check: Caligiuri and Oczipka. 3 CMS, check: Bentaleb, Weston, Serdar. Where well he play Mendyl who is a wide left sided player? Up top with Uth? Uth will be the striker up top.
I'd guess Mendyl as a left-sided "forward" who actually checks back on defense a lot like an attacking midfielder, leaving Uth alone on top during the 80% of the game when City have possession and hopefully occassionally crashing forward with Bentaleb, McKennie, Caligiuri and Oczipka if they can manage some counters.
I'm just "looking forward" to the moment where after Schalke has struggled to keep it level for 60 minutes, a fresh Sane and Mahrez hop on the field. And that will have been a success for Schalke even to get to that point.
It’s cool for McKennie to get this experience but schalke have zero business being on the field with City
City scores after some horrible play out of the back by Schalke (which Mo Edu absolutely called in the TNT pregame), goes to VAR for a foul review, goal stands This could end up with a worse aggregate scoreline than the Arsenal - Bayern tie in 2017.
schalke back 4 and keeper playing like theyve never seen a manchester city match or even one that pep managed
