Hi, can anyone help to settle an argument for me? How does qualification for the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana differ? Which is the most prestigious of the two competitions? Thanks.
Libertadores have different qualify system in each country, all of then are competition qualification (You need to perform good in some competition). Sudamericana have different systems too, and in some countries they use rankings to qualify some teams (like boca and river in argentina). More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copa_Libertadores
In Brasil Libertadores is prestigious and sulamericana is a mickey mouse cup the top Brasilian clubs will go to Libertadores (plus the copa do Brasil winner) the mid level brasilian clubs will go to sulamericana and even them won't use their A squads, since they rather focus on Brasileirao and attempt to get a spot on libertadores (the real cup).
Libertadores is somewhat like the UEFA Champions League. Sudamericana is kind of like the UEFA Cup (and even a little like the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup). Metro
In 2004/05 Inter finish the Brasileirao in the mid group and played the mickey mouse cup sulamericana, the team was just a participant on both competetions since the project to achieve bigger and greater things wasn't ready yet. It was somewhat common opinion for all of us colorados that in 2004/05 we would be getting our feet wet to prepare ourselves to what we did by being the best in Brasil in 2005 (stoled by zveiter and cbf) second best in 06, libertadores and World Champions... so we had a plan. Something that vasco I believe had none then and has less of it now. What was the last thing to come out of vasco???? Inter has presented Lucio of Bayern, Rockemback, Nilmar, Daniel Carvalho, Rafael Sobis, Bolivar, Alexandre Pato and many others.. as result of the plan of world conquest... what is vasco planning?? guanabara???
No, they lost to Flamengo in the Guanabara and now their fans don't want to win the Taça Rio so they won't be vices de novo
