Probably need to sticky this thread.

I expected another one to go before both of these first two. But after thinking about it I think Auria made the right pick. Although I enjoy Can't Buy more.

XTC is a band I always wanted to spend some time just listening to all their stuff at once. I always enjoyed what I heard. But I just have never gotten around to it.

it would be like The Cars debut and Heartbeat City if Steely Dan hadn't released Gaucho and Two Against Nature ( an album that won 4 Grammys but I don't own -- should I? ).

Stilton already stole my thunder with Pink Flag, which I would have picked for its importance. However, this is still the Wire record I play most frequently:

It's hard to believe that they released this a mere nine months after Pink Flag. The growth between the two records is tremendous.

"Outdoor Miner," which is ridiculously good.

"Being Sucked In Again"

Sadly, some of the other great tracks from this perfect record aren't well represented on YouTube. Guess you'll just have to buy it.

1. Bruce Springsteen--Born to Run
2. The Ramones--Ramones
3. Sly & the Family Stone--There's a Riot Going On
4. The Modern Lovers--The Modern Lovers
5. Cheap Trick--At Budokan
6. Big Star--#1 Record
7. AC/DC--Powerage
8. Wire--Chairs Missing

Sorry I didn't get a pick in during my twelve hours, yesterday was a crazy day for me. I'll update the Big Board tonight after I get home from work.

Some quick comments on prior picks before I go.

The Cars - wonderful pick. Scratch one off my short list.

The Cure - Listen, I LOVE the Cure. Disintegration was my 2nd pick in the 80s draft and most of their albums are classics. But let's be frank, shall we? Their first album sucked. Sorry, they didn't have a worthy 70s album.

The Police - Love their 2nd album as well, it was a tossup between that and when I picked Outlandos d'Amour

Was going to comment on some more picks but work is hairy. I'll post here in a second.

Believe it or not, this isn't a Greatest Hits album. You'd be forgiven for thinking it is, though. At the time of its release, it was the biggest-selling debut album in history. And I don't care if it's been overplayed or not, it still rocks. Rock On.

Seeing Boston in concert when I was 14 was absolutely mind-blowing. I'll never forget Sib Hashian's drum kit rising up from the stage during Smoking.

This was a late-late round pick for me...back to the drawing board.

Depends on how important they are to you? I own it because "Cousin Dupree" and "Too Bad About Me" are as good as any of the classic stuff.

To me the rest of it would be filler-- its not disgraceful; but their momentum wasn't up and the material didn't get that type-A, overcalculated, polish-on-the-polish treatment that brings life to their stuff and beats the juice out of most other peoples...they had to resurrect the substance first before they could resurrect the detail...

Jeremy, your short list is slightly longer than Santa's lists of good children and bad children combined. :D

thing about boston, at least for me, is that all their songs sound the same. If you buy this album, you don't have to worry about the other 3 or 4 they put out....that said, not a bad pick

I actually just started to appreciate Elvis the last few years. Never liked him when I was growing up
