Merry Christmas, y'all. Yedlin posted to start. Newcastle United: Elliot, Lascelles, C.Clark, Manquillo, Yedlin, Saivet, Diame, Ritchie, Atsu, Joselu, Gayle
BTW, this is on nbcsportsgold for those with account. Not sure it's available on "regular" TV/streams otherwise.
It is 1-1 at the half. NUFC have hit the woodwork twice. I've been enlisted to do Xmas decorating so only reading match reports. NUFC folks seem to claim they've had the better of the half. But it's tied nonetheless.
Yedlin involved in a good chance in the 1st half. Hammers fan noting that "Yedlin and Ritchie are killing us." Sounds active, fwiw.
From the halftime highlights, it looks like Yedlin was involved in two sequences where if the shooter had put the ball in instead of off the woodwork, Yedlin would have had the hockey assists. One was a sweet one touch cross, and the other was a nice long ball out of the back.
3-1 NUFC. Haven't watched but a second or two. Here's 2nd goal. Came down the left.
Yedlin n Ritchie keeping it tight on the right. Neither gets beat for speed and Ritchie is a good outlet for DY.
BTW Elliot saved a PK at 1-1 that was partially blamed on Yedlin from the twits I read. But the challenge was possibly outside the box. Still, probably saved the game.
Watched the last 5-10 mins. in ET now. NUFC making change. NUFC very nervous as Hammers play long balls into the box. But Newcastle can't bust out and hold possession. Just hand it back to WH def/keeper and deal with long balls. Need some possession deep. Bring on Cobi Jones.
Yedlin deals with long balls. Finally NUFC gets some possession to kill time. Give up midfield FK. Another long ball to Carroll. He's called for foul. But NUFC have to do better with possession to kill these kinds of games. Can't give WH so many chances to get a lucky bounce in the box.
And whistle. They get out for 1 win in 10 games. Only saw the last 10 but the midfield and D (including Yedlin) just playing clearance kickball made this much harder than it should have been.
