Hang on .... "y'all" making fun of how Canadian's speak and spell English? Really? Personally, I don't really notice much pronunciation difference between what I hear in Toronto and Vancouver, compared to Seattle and Los Angeles. And given what I hear in the mid-west, the south, and even parts of the East Coast ... I'd not go there ... Last time I was in New York I went to check out the big J&R store and I came out of the Brooklyn Bridge subway station and noticed that there's a street there that is Centre Street ... not Center Street. Hopefully we'll know in the next few days if the game is at Rogers (aka Skydome ... where the Blue Jays play) or the usual BMO Field. Early March weather can be quite variable ... it can easily be -20ºC in the evening at that time of year - or could be above freezing ...
Yes, I think it may be. Though TFC has gotten a LOT better at the end of the year. A lot depends on if Becks and Donovan are back or not.
Yes, TFC improved dramatically as the season progressed and the tactics and style of Winter started to take hold along with (obviously) the presence of Frints and Koevermans. I honestly thought Koevs deserved a shot at the MLS Newcomer of the year award as he did score eight goals in ten games. In any case, the second half of the season was just about .500 for TFC. Not quite, but almost.
it'll be interesting to see how the lineups evolve because both teams are in unique, albeit very different positions - the galaxy have two stars in question but a relatively bankable supporting lineup. TFC have stars locked up but will have immense turnover in training camp to find a strong supporting cast.
no, i think everyone was waiting until the majority stake of MLSE (toronto FC's parent company) was sold to rogers and bell. now that it's happened, there could be an announcement any time..or we could not hear anything until february, it's hard to say. expect indoors at the rogers centre (/sad face), but BMO field isn't out of the question.
I think there's a very good chance Toronto can break Montreal's attendance if the home leg is at The Skydome (sorry I like to call it instead of Rogers Centre).
wait, so are Donovan and the Galaxy promoting in Asia that they are going to win the Champions League next year?
There's little chance. The Montreal market is very different than the Toronto market. It's an isolated provincial city, with everyone closely following the local media. The game sold itself, and the local media talked it up. Toronto isn't like that, and the game would get lost in the mass of everything else going in North America. It also gave a rare opportunity for Montrealers to go inside Olympic Stadium, that doesn't have many major events these days - and an almost unique change to do it short-sleeve conditions in the middle of winter ... they weren't allowed to operate the stadium in winter for years for safety reasons. Off hand, I can't think of a major sporting event in the Big O during the winter, ever ... I'm sure I'm forgetting something though. They used to do a lot of trade shows though ... I'm not even sure that they can easily configure Rogers Centre for 60,000 for soccer. I think the record for soccer is a lot closer to 50,000.
Maybe Canada should look at hosting the Club World Cup in December. Could be done with the two indoor venues in Toronto and Montreal. Would be quite a contrast to Morocco in 2013/2014.
i don't think they'd be seriously considered based on the artificial surface factor. if that wasn't the case though, then yes, hypothetically toronto/montreal are competitive for any kind of international bid.
well, 8 matches divided by two cities probably would open the possibility of using temporary grass. would be interesting if they bid!
