It is unlikely that SS would use guns in the situation used described. If Trump were physically assaulting Clinton, there would be too much risk in hitting Clinton.
Yesterday was a long day for me and the missus. Our son was playing with the WUSTL pep band, so we watched all the pre-debate stuff to catch glimpses of him (successfully). Then, of course, we watched the debate itself. Spoke with my son late last night, he was pretty excited. A few tidbits from the perspective of a kid on campus: Security was very tight - you needed an ID just to get onto the campus. Steve Doocy is apparently just as much of a tool in real life as you would think. Those people standing behind the talking heads holding pro-Trump signs were not students; they were paid by Trump. The people holding signs like "free ranch" and "Trump isn't family at Olive Garden" - they were real students. Watching at the student union (students couldn't get into the actual debate), he said the biggest roar came when Trump was going on about putting Clinton in jail first thing after the election. There are a lot of foreign students at WUSTL, so I guess maybe they had heard stuff like this before in other lands. And the best for last. Despite what I just said about security being really tight, he accidentally found himself in the spin room after the debate! He and a friend went to the building where the debate was held to see if they could score some "debate swag." They went to a back entrance and the security guy (perhaps because he saw my son's friend had a camera) said it was OK to just go in. So they opened the door and there were the WUSTL chancellor and Wolf Blitzer. So they just kept going. He was standing right next to Nigel Farage and didn't realize it until somebody said, "I can't be in the same room with that asshole Farage!" And he also spotted Jesse Jackson. And yes, they did end up getting some debate swag. Certainly a day to remember for my little one.
As far as the debate goes, I don't have much to ad at this point other than to say that Trump really upped his game - he went from sniffles to all out shop-vac.
I wonder what the reason was for them going with the handheld mic rather than the clip on the moderators used. While Donald has a sniffing issue, the fact he had the handheld mic planted up a nostril didn't do him any favors.
The presidential race for all intent and purpose is over...... The Congressional generic poll must freak out the R's in Capitol Hill though. "A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds Hillary Clinton leading Donald Trump by 11 points nationally, 46% to 35%, with Gary Johnson at 9%. The poll was taken after the video of Trump making lewd comments was disclosed but before last night’s debate. In the generic congressional ballot, Democrats lead Republicans, 49% to 42%.:
From a CNN writer - I'd say Matt Lauer, take note ... but there's no hope for Matt. Maybe for the 3rd debate's moderators, though.
Did it actually work though? The general consensus among the pundits was that the debate was "small" and largely failed to cover anything of real merit. While their involvement was very different from the previous debate hosts, I'm not sure it was more effective at controlling the candidates and having them actually discuss the topics at hand.. If anything, it added a third combatant to a two person debate.
Well yeah, a fair point. Town hall format is problematic. Plus, this campaign has degenerated to dirt tossing, and there's not a lot that moderators can do there. I still like how they approached their jobs, though.
Hey, Megyn Kelly is fine, too. I don't care about the employer, if the journalists do their jobs right, they have my vote.
I can still see Lauer hiding behind Katie Couric after they'd destroyed Richard Jewel's life. "What do you expect from this. Mr Jewel" he bleated. When all Jewel wanted was to be a cop.
