Yeah, we definitely need to be prioritizing the Champions League. The league has taught us time after time that the regular season means shit all, as long as you make the playoffs. Getting a "slow" start in March and April will not spell doom for our season. Not to mention Pachuca will be a tough opponent next round.
I believe the only result we have gotten in LA (in MLS) was the 0-0 draw late last year. I'm happy with a draw if it means that we can prioritize Concachampions.
I'm on board with prioritizing the CCL but a 4-0 lead when they're without their best defender, does Dallas need it's B+ team? Let's be honest Cannon, Hayes, Pomykal would all benefit more from the hostile atmosphere in Panama than they would against a beat up Galaxy team. Pareja doesn't have to start all three but at least two should be given that opportunity. There's a lot to be learned even if they lose 2-0 which doesn't seem all that likely anyway.
Ever? No, we've beat them a few times on their patch. Back in '07-'08 era we had some good games. In '09 we beat them like 5-2 in Carson. Not to mention that big USOC win there last year (albeit in OT).
Way more vet heavy than I'd prefer. If FCD goes young in LA fine but otherwise this seems like a wasted opportunity.
Yeah. Barrios whipped it in and before Urruti could get on the end of it, the defender bobbled it into the goal.
Love it when you all predict line ups. Too bad they didn't listen! Seriously though, can't watch the stream. It's all glitchy. Just me and my old Mac being temperamental?
Horrible 2nd half. Guess we really didn't know how to play with a 5 goal lead. 2 idiotic goals given up in the final minutes was disheartening too. Oh well, on to LA.
It could be worse. FCD is still through, and Papi has something to use to get the guys' attention in training.
Yeah, lots of sleeping on those last 2 set plays. Unacceptable but (like Dustin said) it'll give Oscar something to light a fire under their ass about.
Agree about lighting a fire. Much better to do that with a six goal lead than a close game. Gives them something to work on and now they're going to be hungry again.
I'm happy with the result. The game was over before halftime, and so was the series. Papi made the right calls in the second half. I feel strongly enough about it, that it will be my next article.
They played in Panama's national stadium in Panama City instead of at Arabe's home in Colon, about an hour away (according to Google Maps). Soccer is Panama's 3rd sport behind baseball and boxing. Soccer fans in Panama understand CONCACAF Champions League about as well as US fans. Not likely to be a huge throng for this midweek game. We went down there in 2011 to see our game against Tauro on a Monday night in the same stadium (about 40k capacity). There were about 300 Tauro fans and 100 FCD fans there. Police with riot gear and dogs were on the sideline to keep the "crowd" in line. The police dogs were asleep by halftime. I DVRd the game. We could easily see ourselves in the stands diligently downing our box of Atlas beers.
