Landon Donovan Really Quiting Soccer?
Posted on December 3, 2012 6:28 am
Is Landon Donovan quitting soccer? Were Landon’s admissions over the past month the real deal? Why didn’t he take some time off and THEN tell us about his soul-searching/burn-out? Why build the anticipation? Why not just take some time off and then let us know? On The Straight Red Card.
Didn’t he retire last year?
He is smart really… if he goes now he will be remembered as the hero that carried his NT to the 2nd Round, if he stays a few more years he will be part of the team that lost three straight in Brasil 2014.
You’re confusing USMNT with mehiko
If he had played more overseas he could go to MLS to “retire”.
First of all, best wishes on bring NASL to Indy.
Second of all, this is simply a case of Landy going back to his old reputation as a soft shite. I absolutely take nothing away from his amazing 2010, but outside of that he has a significant history of failing to rise to occasions. It’s his life and his career, I just think his behavior is really unfair to the Nats and their fans in general, and to Klinsi (who was ridiculed in Germany for giving him yet another chance over there back in 2009 with Bayern) in particular.
Certainly seems a little soft. But maybe its more that its very PUBLIC. Sometimes I like my favorite players to keep their private doubts private and figure it out themselves and get back to us when they KNOW how they feel. This seems like a private existential matter than LD could have handled without the press and keeping between he and Bruce and he and Klinsmann.

He needs Cy Sperling.
Come January 31, he’ll be an Everton player.
