US v Antigua & Barbuda World Cup Qualifier: It Didn’t Need to be That Close
Posted on October 13, 2012 6:48 am
The guys discuss and review the US match vs Antigua & Barbuda in the 2012 World Cup Qualifier. The US slips by with a 2-1 win. Eddie Johnson comes away with two goals but does he deserve a “9″ rating? When we get into the hexagon, how comfortable do you feel? Do we play up or down depending on our opponents or is it really just the Klinsmann approach that makes us so vulnerable to inferior teams? On the Straight Red Card. www.thestraightredcard.com.
For those uninformed of the Dexter St Jock skit from the 80s, here it is:

I admit last night was a bit closer than it should of been but Antigua isn’t as bad as people make them out to be. They haven’t been blown away in a single match this round and they have a tiny and awful pitch. No one should of been expecting a 4 or 5 goal win. Frankly 3 points is 3 points and all we need is a draw to get through now.
I think the point was 3 points is 3 points BUT…..
how myopic
Have to agree… I’ve heard a lot of myopic responses this past week. Did anyone actually watch how we played? Or how we have been playing verses inferior teams. Klinsmann’s recent response that CONCACAF teams are “better” now is laughable. Our players are better too! Way better than they were 10 years ago and they’re playing in big leagues. That should cancel out any improvement by a Div 3 island nation team. I am sick of hearing: “well hey, we got the three points.” That is so missing the point.
You clowns don’t have a clue. Can’t you understand this was an impossible game to win by any wide margin no matter who you were playing. The field, the weather conditions – couple that with the fact that the US are seen as an easy mark away from home means that three points, in this case, were “get out of town” good.
Do you guys ever look beyond the end of your noses ?
I’m afraid you’re the one not looking beyond the end of your nose. Do you understand or see any trend developing when we play inferior teams? Any at all? If not, you need to look beyond your nose–but first take the clown nose off. It’ll be easier to see.
“The field, the weather conditions – couple that with the fact that the US are seen as an easy mark away from home means that three points”
welcome to CONCACAF. Home of crap fields, countries with rainy seasons and teams that rarely win away from home. Mexico manages it from time to time, but even they dont manage to consistently win on the road.
It wasnt the result but rather how we played. These conditions are not going to change and we’ve managed results in the past so we better damn well adjust to them.
The US has played poorly for some time now. This performance was nothing new.
Sweden needed a late goal to beat the Faroes on the same day. It happens.
I’m not sure you understand that scope of this….But okay, good for Sweden–but this isn’t about Sweden.
We need to have SOME players who have experience playing on the left side effectively. We need better alternatives when the injury bug hits.
EDDIE MO**ERFU**IN JOHNSON !!! WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
We’re all glad Eddie scored twice. But the play was stagnant and stale.
agree
I agree dwrec1971….
This is exactly along the same lines as my blog
