About How Excited Should We Get About the US Win vs Mexico at Azteca?
Posted on August 20, 2012 4:13 am
The guys review the result of the US victory of Mexico at Azteca. Was it as ground-breaking and important as was described by so many after the game? on The Straight Red Card.
Technically pontius encroached the arc not the box, which refs normally never call, not to mention the two philly players that encroached the box too. Vamos United!!
We need to be VERY excited. A friendly is a friendly but when Mexico takes there A Team and We take our B/C Team and We punch them in the mouth that is well enough reason to be excited…If that was not enough, punking them them on Sacred Ground @ Azteca and making history is another grand reason!
the fact that we won our first game in Azteca with a weaken squad is something to cheer about. However we cannot overlook the notion we had very few chances and even less worthwhile possession. It was a good think Mexico regressed back to how they use to play against the US (all possession, few chances).
Yes, yes. “We ‘deserve’ to win because we had more possession. We flock around with the ball to the point of exciting ourselves, but we don’t do anything useful. The U.S. is “lucky” because Bret Shea attacked the goal with purpose and he and Boyd on Orosco-Fiscal made the the most of an opportunity, while we made lots of pointless dribbles and passes, therefore proving our superiority. Oh, we did produce a couple of very good shots that Howard saved by pure luck having nothing to do with his reflexes or positional sense.”
B/c team lol
Your right it was more C/D Squad…LOL
Mexico wasn’t entirely with their best, either.
I mean, gotta consider the notable lack of Salcido, Dos Santos, Peralta and the fact that the players were either in pre-season or early-season form, as opposed to the US’s Mid-season higher form.
….Just things to consider. Its a friendly.
The only reason the arc exists is for PKs. That’s it. It’s the only reason. Clear encroachment, no brainer of a call.
I think that was Mexico’s B+ team. An argument can be made that it was an A- team.
The USMNT was more of a C- team because it was missing Adu.
Once you take that into consideration, it is a much bigger accomplishment than it was thought of at first. To win at the Azteca without Adu is paramount to winning a Confederation’s Cup, or winning Olympic gold, or two back to back Gold Cups. I am growing this uneasy respect and admiration for the USMNT. I never thuoght I’d be saying this, but if the USMNT continues on this upward spiral, I feel compelled to root for them. The grit, never say die attitude, and work rate is truly world class. Combine that with this win at the Azteca and I can only say that this team will be a force to be reckoned with in Brazil.
Brek Shea might just be the real deal, and with Orozco, Castillo and Hercules, I am beginning to feel a connection to this USMNT that I never felt before. Klinsmann is aiming for the hearts of the Mexican-American community by letting these players have a chance to showcase their talent and I have to say… I am impressed!
Congratulations on this historic win and I look forward to mocking you guys in the future.
LOL @ Adu
You didn’t need the last sentence. From the moment you mentioned Adu the intent was clear.
Thank You Estevano, There is nothing better than hearing a Tri Fan talk about Mocking the US in the Future… I wonder if the mocking will come after we take First in Qualifiers like last cycle or after Barrera’s Field Goals Attempts during matches…Either way I will be looking forward to your comments, atleast now I know how my comments were cut and pasted in the Gringo’s Hall of Shame thread
Good show, as always.
I like the insight on Torres being put in a position to fail by playing so far up the pitch. You are correct in your assertion he needs to play deeper, which allows him to better facilitate for others. Problem is this often exposes some of his weaknesses, namely that he is not a ball winner, not effective at breaking up the opposition attack.
Somewhat of a catch-22 for what the NT is trying to accomplish from its defensive CMs. We need both the distributor and enforcer in one player, ideally, but thus far lack that player in the NT pool.
But JK rates him highly so he will continue to play, a la Beckerman, another deep lying playmaker who doesn’t cover the required ground for his position and lacks the tenacity in the final tackle. Just finding the right chemistry for our various CM options remains one of the biggest hurdles for the NT.
We’ll see how long JK rates him. He made a comment on Torres that he needs to become more consistent and that 1 game in 5 is not good enough. He was pulled out at half time (as was donovan who was also playing poorly).
I suspect he may have played himself out of contention of a starter given a full squad.
I´m a fan and here in Brazil i don´t miss ! i watch over cable here !
