The Biggest Surprises w/ Klinsmann’s 27 USMNT Roster: No Brek Shea?

The guys discuss the biggest surprises about Jurgen Klinsmann’s picks for the upcoming friendly/qualifying roster. Does the absence of Brek Shea make sense? Who fills in at the wing positions? Does this change the formation? Will Landon Donovan play out left? Danny Williams out right? How about Herculez Gomez out right? On The Straight Red Card.
No break shea? Must be the end of the world
more worried about the defense than brek shea. Why are we always 1 injury away from jonathan bornstein playing.
Not such a big surprise with Shea given this statement regarding his recent antics,
“We have watched Brek during the last few months, and given his performances and some of the other issues, we felt he should be on the standby list. He’s still a young player with a lot of talent and also a lot to learn.”
Biggest surprise for me was no DaMarcus Beasley. He had been playing well in Mexico.
Beas was my surprise too.
I get that Shea has been poor, but hasn’t Agudelo as well? When he has come on, haven’t his performances been unimpressive. All I’m saying is–be consistent. No Shea is fine–but no Agudelo then as well. I agree with the show that Agudelo has no business on this team…
Oh… and keep doing the show. It is good to see some people interested enough in the sport in the United States.
As a Seattle fan and with the good defensive form this year, I was thinking Parke was worth a look as the guy you want to train with the big boys to build depth in the pool before cutting him. But then he sat on his thumb and stroked his chin as that French guy strode in unobstructed on the young keeper Jeff was supposed to be protecting up in Vancouver.
Landon has seen his best days, or so it would appear, but he is a good guy to have around for versatility and keeping defenses unbalanced. Play him on the left, and he can flip-flop with all sorts of people – one of the center mids, the second striker appropriately nicknamed “Deuce,” the right winger. Or you can play him in a 4-3-3 as a forward against weaker teams.
I think Agudelo will be cut, but it is good to call him in to train with the big boys as a hope for the future. You could say the same thing for Shea, except Shea has had some experience and knows what it takes, and Klinsmann is sending the message, “Thou knowest what it taketh. Therefore, gettest thou thy shit together.” Of course, Agudelo has had some time with the big team, himself. But, somehow, I still think of him as green and needing to be “hardened off,” to use a gardening term. I wish he were on a club that is in the CCL mix. I think having some batteries and piss thrown at him while playing in a sand pit might help him grow a pair. But, spaaking of hardened off forwards and Sounders, the Grown-ass Man (no, GAM does not mean “gay asian male”), who has scored goals in WCQ in difficult places, is getting regular minutes and regular goals again.
Love your show, guys. Great detailed discussion on the National team and MLS. Awesome!!!
