Aron Winter Out at Toronto FC? Stephen Ireland to New York Red Bulls?

The guys discuss how long Toronto will go before it gets its first win. How long does Aron Winter have left? Sick of the “Italian League Star to MLS” rumors yet? How will the New York Red Bulls line up without Henry? Who loses his midfield starting job when Stephen Ireland joins NYRB? Is the Ireland deal even realistic? How ugly are you? Let the Ugly Meter Pro Application tell you. On The Straight Red Card.
Toronto is scoring goals, finally, and it took a cracker to beat them at RSL, but you have to wonder about the morale. They may need to make a change just because they need to make a change.
They do seem super-depressed after every loss. At some point that feeling of losing just may become inevitable. That’s when things have to change.
They’ve hung in on a number of games and could have easily walked away with some points. They were up on Chicago at one point before losing the game. Like i said, i doubt they will remain pointless for too much longer, but at what point do you can your manager? You have to give him time to develop a team to play his style, but you certainly dont want to hit the half season marker and already be eliminated from the playoffs :-/
I don’t think the players are the problem. I think the coach has lost the locker room and morale is in the toilet.
One could blame the defensive gaps that lead to goals in the Chicago game on the formation and tactics. Of course the players had their own gaffs that caused the goals.
TFC need new players and a new manager. Winter needs to be fired. Torsten Frings has been a disappointment as of late. Ryan Johnson up top has finishing issues and is an emotional wreck half the time during games. DeGuzman is still a failure like last year and the fact he earns a million plus a year is a slap in the face to us TFC fans.
As an American fan who lived in Korea in 2002, I have always considered Frings quite handy. In terms of the overall thrust in the Winter season, you can’t fault him for De Guzman. He shouldn’t be paid more than Jeff Larentowicz or Shalrie Joseph or Kyle Beckerman or Osvaldo Alonso, but that is not Winter’s fault.
But that is not to say he has not made some odd decisions. His returning Frings to midfield is an admission of the abject stupidity of playing three defenders, with your central defender being a midfielder. Not Frings’ fault, but Winter’s.
Agreed on De Guzman…
What, no love for the “handy” fake compliment? I thought it was pretty good. Or maybe you are against keeping grudges alive. How very anti-soccer tradition of you.
But appreciate the agreement on De Guzman. It’s not that holding midfielders are not valuable, but we have some seriously good holding midfielders in MLS, so if a club splashes tons cash on, not one, but two, holding midfielders, however accomplished they may be on resume, they need to produce. It’s not like MLS is short on very good holding midfielders.
Can’t beat a good curse.
