US Limps Into Friendly with Italy: Donovan, Jones, Chandler, Torres Out
Posted on February 27, 2012 5:13 am
The guys discuss the upcoming friendly with Italy on Feb 29th, 2012. It looks like Shea will be added to the squad. Who else, as the team seems to shrink with injuries?
Time to give Josh Gatt a call?

Brett’s still not twittering….Yet.
Bronchitis is not a trivial thing. That being said, if the Gods are against Klinsmann and Donovan hooking up, I would sooner do without Klinsmann.
That being said, although I have been repeatedly reminded I am not an expert, I would have been interested to know what Klinsy would have done with Torres, Donovan, and Dempsey all healthy.
Since he doesn’t have all healthy, I can only judge him on results. His results suck. If they continue to suck, we need to sack him before we start losing to nations whose starters “moonlight” as bouncers at tourist clubs.
As for Altidore, it’s nice you guys think he knows how to play what I consider to be his position, but his manager is fine with him having Nate Jaqua-itis, his position as the “default” striker not changing since forever, and he has not proven himself yet. His manager took over the assumption that he is a “mortal lock” (as opposed to a, what?, “undead unlock”?) to start, even though that status was and is unjustified. He is not without accomplishment, he is not without skills, but I am still not conceding this “automatic” crap. It’s not that he is not a “Bati-gol,” it’s that he, so far, has not shown me he would be better than Bruce Murray or Joe-Max Moore if such personages were privileged to be surrounded by the level of talent he is. He is certainly no McBride or Wynalda.
“If they continue to suck, we need to sack him before we start losing to nations whose starters “moonlight” as bouncers at tourist clubs.”
…so how long can the US go scoreless against Antigua in June before you hit the panic button?
No biggy. Sacha and Shea will step right in and Johnson will play left back.
Oh no, now Italy might snap our 3 game winning streak!!!!!
I agree with Bret. Chandler does a serviceable job on the left, but he is very much a right-footed player. Watch his body english and positioning when he’s on the left, everything is backwards. He should be on the right, with Johnson playing left back.
Here’s my projected line-up:
———–Jozy————-
Shea——Dempsey——Williams
——–Bradley————-
————–Edu———–
Johnson—Boca—Goodson—Dolo
————Howard———–
Williams is actually playing DM for his club and Bradley has been slotted as more of a winger in the attack and dmid in the defense for Chievo… although Chievo has used him as a pure dmid as well.
St: Jozy, Buddle
MF: Bradley (RM), Dempsey (AM), Williams (DM), Shea (LM)
DF: Dolo (RB), Goodson (CB), Boca (CB), Johnson (LB)
GK: Howard
Play a 4-4-2 diamond midfield in the attack and a 4-2-2-2 with Bradley pinching in on the defense to help Williams (similar to what we saw against Slovenia). That’s what i would do at this point.
I believe I freaking nailed the lineup. Throw me a milkbone!
