US Friendly Roster: Its All About Winning NOW….on TSRC

Brett and Derek discuss the US Roster announcement for Ecuador and Honduras. Topics:
+ Please give us two strikers!
+ Ream vs Gonzo
+ Injuries, injuries, injuries
+ Play Chandler at RB please, and I guess Chandler hasn’t “defected” and more.
On The Straight Red Card.
Good god, let’s hope it’s not a 4-2-2. I don’t want to go back to Bunkering. This isn’t really an all out attacking team.
It will probably be a 4-4-2 on defense for sure… A 4-4-2 however, is not NECESSARILY a “bunkering” formation… Some debate on whether the whole “bunkering” notion is blown out of proportion anyhow…
A 4-4-2 does not mean bunkering.
Joe Cannon and Kevin Hartman, wow.
And guess who this Jonas fellow from the Yanks Abroad comments section has at goalkeeper for the US Olympic team… Bill Hamid? Sean Johnson? Zac MacMath? Cody Cropper? One of our many talented and experienced over-age keepers?
No, that would be far too obvious. Instead he’s going with a guy who has zero MLS minutes since being drafted in 2008:

so putting my two cents in it
goalkeeper:
josh lambo
— jonas
That is pretty amusing….
Haha wow. Johnson and Hamid will take the gker spot. Shocked he would (or anyone) would pick Lambo
Bradley versus Torres comparisons: Bradley looks to push the issue whereas Torres looks to find a player in space. That is why Torres leads to better possession but fewer chances. Also, Bradley is not a right midfielder in Italy. He is a central midfielder in a 3 man system.
As for Gonzalez… His footwork, balance, and agility are all issues.
Less than Ream’s?
In a word, yes.
I hate to be in a position to defend Ream as I do not think he should be called in right now, but he is a better long term prospect than Gonzalez. His problems are in the head. His foot speed and agility are pretty underrated around here, whereas Gonzalez’s lack thereof are too widely overlooked. People see a big 6’5″ defender and hope he can be the next big thing. There is a reason he is not. His feet.
I think the biggest miss in this roster is Geoff Cameron.
i like your comparison between Torres and Bradley. Two different styles.
As for his club, i guess he’d technically be classified as a Right Central mid. He does push out wide, but he doesnt push up like a winger. In fact their wingbacks tend to push up in the attack as a winger and even MB covers back to pick up the defensive slack. Guess i was being too broad on his role.
however, it plays into the fact that if JK opts to play a true 4-3-3 that MB is getting experience further toward the wings, ideally a role he would be playing with the US in a 4-3-3 assuming JK’s central 3 are all Center mids.
I do think it is good news for the US team that Bradley is getting experience in a 3 man midfield. Defensive hand offs in a 3 man can be difficult. So getting time there will be helpful. Real bummer Holden is not here so those two could get time together.
Bradley looked like a player still settling in last week, at times thinking when he should have been reacting. Not unexpected or worth any criticism, but it just highlights how subtle wrinkles can take time for players to adjust to.
As always, I enjoyed the show. Thanks to both of you.
So glad more people share my opinion on Ream. He has plenty of time to get better but right now he’s just no where near cutting it. He’s a walking disaster for RBNY and for right now id rather see anybody get the call but him.
“He has plenty of time to get better”
key phrase. Quite a few people are claiming he will never be an option. He’s young and has plenty of time to grow and develop, but as of right now he simply doesnt seem to be the option we need.
THE BEST PLAYER ON THE FIELD FOR THE ECUADOR MATCH WILL BE ANTONIO VALENCIA. NO OTHER US PLAYER COMES CLOSE. VALENCIA IS GONNA BUST THAT ASS
He is a pretty fine player… But I don’t know about gaylord sex on the pitch… That could be a sure-fired yellow card…
LOL
Brian, I think your CAPS lock is stuck.
