Freddy Adu to Philly; the Tribulations of Michael Bradley at Gladbach on TSRC

Brett and Derek discuss Freddy Adu’s move to the Philadelphia Union, Michael Bradley’s struggle to find a new club, and Bob Bradley’s interview to be the Egyptian National Team Manager. On The Straight Red Card.
He came back to MLS because Klinnsman told him too? We all get it, I think it’s obvious that you don’t like Freddy. But this is clearly a good move for Freddy.
They don’t like Freddy? Huh? I think D said he should have stayed in Europe–that he finally had his shet together… Brett said his move was good–get some PT and go back to Europe later… Who doesn’t like Freddy? Did you here them applaud his USMNT comeback?
lol, an odd comment. I think it was said that he came back to be closer to klinsmann and find some stability. As dwreck points out, both were quite positive on the kid and if you followed the show they have been quite positive since the Gold Cup performances (which hasnt been that long, but there hasnt been much to comment on his previous play).
dwreck had his freddy “small feet” clips and running joke, but i dont think either have been harsh on the kid.
Monchengladbach is better without Bradley. Watch them play this year and you’ll see a team that is better on the ball, faster, and more dynamic.
Why can’t bradley go to a successful Championship teams? Leicester city has the pockets to dish out the money to buy him… others could be Cardiff City, Reading, Leeds etc.
That would be to insinuate that no other clubs in first division football would benefit from having MB on their team? I can think of at least 5 teams in premiership who would benefit from having Michael on their team.
I think lugger’s saying that he’ll have a greater chance at getting a good run of form if he’s on an above average team in a league where he’s guaranteed playing time.
I’m fine with that, but aren’t a handful of the teams in the Premiership really just glorified Championship sides?
MB an attacking mid based on what he did in holland? Most goals were on set pieces not anything he created and how many assists did he have? Not to mention save for 2 or 3 teams there’s a huge drop in competition. So using that to prove he can be an attacking mid is a bit of a stretch to say the least. He’s clearly at his best as a d mid as he’s proved on the national team. Right now he needs to get back to form by playing in a lesser league before EPL teams even entertain the thought of giving him a chance.
Goals are goals, danny. And his play as a CAM for Herenveen wasn’t bad either. There’s a reason Gladbach wanted to bring him to the Bundesliga.
PS Dannysnightout, Bradley scored 16 league goals and 2 more non-league goals in the 07-08 season playing an attacking role in the midfield for Heerenveen… To say they were all or predominantly on set pieces, actually, is totally inaccurate.
Having lived in Holland during his time there i distinctly remember a lot of those goals being set pieces, but Im entirely to lazy to get the goal by goal breakdown. So you’re right, and you’re also right goals are goals. And yes there was a reason Gladbach wanted him, but there’s also a reason why he didn’t succeed in that position in Germany and they don’t want him anymore. Like what was mentioned in the podcast, not like clubs are jumping at the chance to pick him up…. including Heerenveen. My argument isn’t that he is a bad player by any means, I just don’t see him as an attacking mid, I think his time being an attacking mid for the USMNT has certainly proved. Anyways, agree to disagree. Keep the awesome podcasts coming and I’d love to hear Dwreck interviewing Klinnsman!
Fair enough dannysnightout… There doesn’t seem to be a flood of clubs after MB for that 5M pricetag…
We’ll see about Klinsmann’s “availability.”
Unless your dad is coaching the team no-one is “guaranteed” playing time…..
Ouch! I laughed on this one and nearly trickled in my doggie shorts…
Mike’s a good player but not good enough to outweigh the fact that he is cancer in the locker room.
I dont think Bradley got the memo, Balotelli acts that way because he IS that great.
Do you think comparing Balotelli and Michael Bradley is fair. Brett was talking about his behavior back when he was with the Chicago Fire–when he was young and immature. Are we saying that MB hasn’t matured at all over those years? Reduced his cards, got a hold of his sometimes short temper? He can still be a little intense sometimes, but he’s not the same kid he was with Chicago.
