germany pretty much beat our B team, which shouldnt be an excuse i know, but it is what it is. Kaviedes and Borja are nobody compared to Delgado and Tenorio.. Hurtado wouldve never let that first goal occur and Castillo and Reasco bring in much more attacking danger than Ayovi and Ambrossi. Overall im just happy so many players got the opportunity to participate ESPECIALLY Lara who i hope is used sometime in the next game against England/Sweden.. Other than that lets not stress as sadly for the Germans that was them at probably their best  ... Lets hope and expect a much better Ecuador in the knockout stage on Sat/Sun. Si se puede Ecuador, win or lose u have made us proud!!

    Suarez made a mistake.

I cant even believe to think how angry I am that he did not try to play his first team to try to gain an advantage over the Germans to win the Group. Who in their right mind would want to risk it and play England? I know they havent been playing well, but on the occasion they will uprise and even with their 5 top players back possibly wont pose a challenge. Before they played the match, its like they were beaten, thinking 'oh well were in the 16 so it doesnt matter'.

Ecuador's chances of getting the Swedes (who havent been excellent since 1994) and T&T, were very high if they played full squad for a draw. Quarterfinals would have beckoned. Anyways what you guys think??

its not like england has been playing so great either. anyways sweden is no pushover team. i wouldnt be surprised if the swedes beat the english (the english havent beat the swedes in like 30 years or something like that) i think the english will take the group today with a tie.

who ever the ecuas have to play will be a tough opponent

    VAMOS ECUADOR :)

Well, Suarez didn't know if he was gonna play England or Sweden, so getting 1st place doesn't make much of a difference at this point, Sweden could still beat England for all we know. What's important is that he's in the second round, he rested a few key players, avoided any injuries, avoided more yellows and now has an extra day to rest, since the next game will be on Sunday. Germany will have to play on Saturday.

hey guys!!! just got back from Germany... Caught the game this morning.. Ambrossi is awful like I have always said.. Two goals came from his side..Hes' slow and loses his markers and can't read the game...Jose Valencia would have been interesting playing on that side.

    Re: Suarez made a mistake.

England CAN'T lose to the Swedes in teh WC. Otherwise Sven Ericsson wont see the light of day ever again.

And why would England want to play Germany in next round. Much easier to face Ecuador.

Like it or not, you gotta trust Suarez. No one truly knows Ecuador now. He put on 5 subs for the game, so England doesn't really know who they're facing. I would say the only issue is that low morale can kill you in this 'short' tournament, so Ecuador may be asking themselves can we truly win against a footballing superpower. Looking at today's game, the answer would be NO. Buuuuuut, it's 11 vs 11 on that field and Ecuador is full of talent. They just don't look as pretty as the England team :D

no 'B' teams in the World Cup. All these guys on both sides, even on the bench are still class. This however is the key to winning this type of tournament and the difference between world football superpowers and the rest. It is all about being deep in your bench. Being able to call up ANY guy on the bench and expecting that sub to perform at any time. Truth is, it's exhausting playing 3 games in a short span against tough teams. That's another point where the Germans are just better physically prepared then most teams out there. I think Suarez will need to prepare his team mentally for the next match. I'm sure Tin isn't saying that was our 'b' team out there. Instead he's saying we win as a team or we lose as a team. Kaviedes is class and Borja was a savior during the qualifiers, a new breed of Ecuadorian player that made everyone stand up and take notice. So to simply say that the guys out there were 'B' material is an excuse. Be psyched for the next match and win or lose, Ecuador has made this WC memorable.

good point. but cmon, we were missing 5 of our regular starters. and that ref was basically german's 12 man. his failure to call a foul on Frings led to the second gol which should not have happened. and one of their guys kicked Kaviedes in the face and got no card! Huth pulled Kaviedes down in the area which should have been penalty! I know we will face England now, but atleast the ref will probably be more unbiased then the crap we saw today! Also, we will have Hurtado, Reasco, Castillo, C.Tenorio and El Tin back! Kaviedes is an impact player and in both games, played excellent coming on the second half! I still believe Ecuador have one more surprise atleast!

hmm... well, I still trust in Suarez. I think we all know he didn't take this match as serious as Germany did. Whetehr we faced Sweden or England, we would have a tough match, not much difference, so we might as well play the slightly stronger team and with our best and hopefully take advantage of any mistakes they make! I know it is possible!

    Re: Suarez made a mistake.

Well, I wouldn't blame Suarez for subbing his players with yellow cards. You have to protect them for the next round. But, I would blame him for not giving his team any energy against the Germans. They came out flat, and that wasn't the kind of performance you want to have heading into the knockout stage.

I think England and Sweden are a comparable opponent. Both would be difficult for 'La Tri'. I don't know why so many people are afraid of England. They have clearly not played to their full potential, and Sweden had a potent offense in Euro qualifying. If anything, I'd be more afraid of Sweden 'waking' up.

Owen might miss the second round match, which certainly helps Ecuador's chances, but they'll need to come out with the same fire they had in the Poland match. How they handle this loss to Germany will dictate their performance. If they can toss it to the side and forget about it, then they have a chance. If they start to doubt themselves, then they might as well buy their tickets back to Quito right now.

When its time for England to step up their game they will. I am not saying they are good enough to Win, but, they can beat Ecuador. I still think its a bad call, the Swedes play poorly (they always play excellent against the English). I would see the quarterfinals being Ecua's if they played them or Paraguay.

no not a mikstake we would lose this game no matter what we had like 5 players with yellows and other injured it would be stupid as hell to risk these players who anyways wouldn't give a %100 given their situations.

I think of LFS's decision in this way:

    Is it better to

    (a) play England with Bam Bam, Teno and Tin, or

    (b) play Sweden without any combination of those three?

Gotta go with (a), even though it's an admitted gamble.

allthough i was shocked and sort of dissapointed with the lack of interest of some players, i think LFS did the right thing.......

we were allready qualified, so no need to risk key players.

    so now..........

1-we have all our players with no yellows.

2-we get an extra day of rest/practice cuz we play on sunday

3-we play a england team with no owen, a crap rooney, a possibly injured rio ferdinany, and a tackle friendly duo of gerrard/lampard who will sooner or later get a red card. why not sooner as in versus ecuador;)

    vamos ecuador!

I have to agree. We all have to ask ourselves what would Ecuador actually have gained with a win or a tie?? I personally think it was a smart move to not play the star players. I wish I could actually see 1st hand what the team's morale is right now, but since that is impossible, I would have to assume it is still high and that this loss was a calculated move by Suarez.

The only thing that is bugging me right now is Ulisses De La Cruz. He has been a huge disapointment in my opinion. He has become a sort of "ball hog".

he had a bad game, but that was a just a reflection of the whole team! he has been quite solid in the others, so let's just hope, and i know he will, deliver when he has to, especially against England, and he knows them quite well! ;)

I have to agree with your points there.

Is Rio Ferdinand injured? How serious is Owen's injury?

No one knows if Ferdinand is injured, but he wasn't playing hard against Sweden. He wasn't tackling and he wasn't challenging, which led the commentators to speculate that maybe he's playing hurt. The truth to that is up in the air.

As for Owen, he left the game limping in the second minute, I believe, with what was described as a 'knee injury'. It didn't look good.

All I want is for Ecuador to come out like a bat out of hell against England! I don't care if they win or lose.....seriously! I can take losing...what I can't take is losing like a bunch of *ssholes with no heart! Ecuador looked like a bunch of amateurs today...that's what upsets me. The loss was to be expected in a way, but a blowout was not. I just want Ecuador to leave everything they have...and then some...on the field.
