The Aristocrats [R] trailer Good lord that was funny. And awful, just awful. Just takes you places and you hear things that you can never unhear. I saw a few people walk out but I was more surprised how long those people stayed. After about the first 2 minutes or so, you know what you're getting. More than the humor though, it gets you into the craft of comedy. And it's just amazing how these comedians can make this simple joke with possibly the worst line in the world funny The ones who stood out: Gilbert Gottfried - I never really got him before but he absolutely kills. Bob Saget - I wish people would stop talking about how vulgar he is, but he really is. He has it down to an art form. Sara Silverman - I expected her to be more out there but she gives a different spin, putting herself into character. Wendy Liebman - I'm not going to spoil it. Eric Cartman
Re: The Aristocrats [R] Went to go see it last night in DC but it was sold out. If nothing else, this film has generated some serious buzz.
Re: The Aristocrats [R] The big theater close to me usually shows smaller movies and indies but it is a chain (AMC) and they've decided they won't be showing it. It is in one theater in south Denver which is a long ways from me, but it is opening in Boulder next weekend so I'm going then. So excited.
Re: The Aristocrats [R] I was wondering - I thought it was big chain policy to not show unrated films, or am I thinking of NC-17 films? But I saw it at a Regal theater, so I guess I was wrong. I think it would've been lucky to get an R rating.
Re: The Aristocrats [R] The film is unrated -- AMC is the only chain to say that they won't carry it. This seems like a DVD rental to me. First of all, as much as it may be roaringly funny, there's something about spending $10.50 to watch the same general joke told 50 times that's not appealing. Second, my wife would never, ever go see it.
Re: The Aristocrats [R] That's not really how it goes down - the same joke 50 times. It really is a documentary with different comedians giving their take on the history and aspects of the joke. I think that only one or two comedians actually do it start to finish. Instead, you'll have the comedians talking about the first time they heard it, the first time they told it, why they give a certain spin to it (i.e., scatalogical vs. sexual) and even just why the word "aristocrats" works as a punchline as opposed to a couple other words that have been used (I loved Drew Carey's take on the punchline, complete with his little finger-snap thing). Perhaps the sickest thing in the movie though, for anyone who is a Howard Stern fan (I'm not a loyal listener by any stretch but listened here and there to get the joke), is that Jackie "the Jokeman" Martling is somehow able to shill his website throughout the film.
The Aristocrats Anyone see this movie? I'd give it away, but due to filtering rules, no one could read it here. I give a huge thumbs up (insert crude joke here). Its called the Aristocrats!
Re: The Aristocrats [R] This movie is better than a home DVD rental. See it at the movies. My fave: A tie between Gotfried and Cartman. George Carlin is also great.
Re: The Aristocrats [R] Gotta go with Cartman. They get the full joke in as opposed to the cuts in and out of Gilbert's bit.
Re: The Aristocrats [R] Cartman was freaking hilarious, although I'd seen that before. There were some truly fantastic lines from that movie. Dana Gould is hilarious.
The Aristocrats I thought this deserved it's own thread. Has anyone else seen it? I thought it was hilarious.
Re: The Aristocrats I saw it. You have to be in the mood, but I didn't experience any real laugh out loud moments. If you are a fan of comedy, comedians, it is a must see, but casual fans may be bored.
Re: The Aristocrats My GF and I, and the two people with which we went, thought it was hilarious. I recommend it to everyone, including the easily offended (just to cause trouble).
Re: The Aristocrats While recommending/warning my friends about this movie, I've had a number of conversations along the lines of "No, you don't understand, it's REALLY offensive." Loved it more than I love freedom, though. Best: Sarah Silverman, George Carlin, Drew Carey, and the guy who was trying to get the Air Force guy to laugh outside the club. Wendy Liebman was pretty funny. I can't stand Doug Stanhope, but he and Andy Richter telling the joke to their infant children was a riot. Disappointing: Eric Idle, Robin Williams, Jon Stewart. Oh, Jesus, and - you know, I guess it's a spoiler, technically, but it sucked so freaking hard - okay, you've heard of the guy at the end, but you sure as hell don't need to sit through the credits in order to get the payoff, trust me.
Re: The Aristocrats Saw it Saturday night and loved it. I'll echo the earlier comments that it is extremely vulgar, but at the same time very light hearted and greatly entertaining. My personal favorites were Bob Saget, Pollack doing the joke as Walken, Carlin, Silverman, Gilbert Gotfried (he pleasantly surprised me), and the dude with the cards. Oh yeah, the guy standing outside with the tall black fellow was hilarious. Also what might get overlooked is how well the documentary was compiled and edited. It's pretty amazing how one joke for 90 minutes can make you laugh so much.
Re: The Aristocrats Good call. Billy the Mime was hysterical. I wish they had shown his whole routine. EDIT - and this may be the film that rehabilitates Bob Saget.
