This is of course impossible,as SAF hates American players, even ordering R0ssi to call himself Italian. :)

Seriously, good for him.I wonder what Standard's asking price has gone to.

It's a flattering story, but I would hate to see Gooch riding the bench the season before the world cup.

LOL Glaziers Empire. Yes cover for Gooch and Silvestre but why Gooch?

    Here here...

If SaF signs him there is the possibility of a loan deal though which would be nice...

ahh! well the asking price has only been set at €3m euros which levels out at aroung £1.3- £1.6m and with the kind of performances that Silvestre put in last season and going on how good you lot say he is i reckon he could be a replacement for silvestre no a bench warmer.

Whether he sits the bench the majority of the time or not (he would at least get time in CL or Cup games), training at Manchester is probably better than the play in Belgium.

And I would beg to differ. Training, no matter with whom, is not better than playing in a real game. You just simply cannot duplicate the atmosphere, the mental aspect, etc. In training, even for Man U, yes, you're trying to impress your coach in hopes of getting to play in a real game...but it cannot and does not take the place of actually playing in a real game.

he wouldn't be bought to warm the bench. He's already better than Silvestre IMHO. And he's the same age as Donovan and Beasley, a pretty good buy for ManU if you ask me - a lot of upside and not much risk. If you looked at the "ManU to buy a Right Back? (Spector)" thread you'll see that United don't have a whole lot of depth at Central Defender. It basically comes down to Rio, Silves, and Wes Brown. and Wes Brown (without Cincinho in the fold yet) is the backup for Gary Neville to

No way. It's better to play in Belgium, MLS, etc. than to ride pine at ManUtd. Nothing replaces match experience.

Does he have the caps yet to get a WP?

And I agree that playing 1st team action is better than training.

I believe if he already has a WP in Belgium, that he should be good to go.

I personally would lilke to see him stay in Belgium this year, play in the world cup, and then make a club move in 2006. I just think a fight for playing time at a club like ManU is likely to test his confidence and be very draining heading into the world cup.

But if ManU is ready to move now, it's pretty much impossible for me to see him deferring. Too much coin on the line.

What we need, another promising youth prospect owned by ManU and loaned out to whoever needs them that week.

He needs to meet the UK Work Permit requirements. Belgium is irrelevant unless he qualified for citizenship.

And why are you all assuming that Gooch is going to sit the pine for Man U if he is signed? No, he probably wouldn't be a week-in week-out starter at first, but with United in the EPL, FA Cup, League Cup, and Champions League, I think he would see plently of playing time. Other than Rio, there is no definite starter in the center of defense, at least no one unassailable. Gooch is a player with massive upside, but most people forget that he is also a heck of a player right now, good enough in fact to make the Jupiler League Best XI against/alongside the likes of Vincent Kompany, Anthony Vanden Borre, etc.

Simply put, I don't think Alex Ferguson is a big fan of buying players just for cover. The Man Utd reserves have enough talent to provide that without splahing out millions of dollars for benchwarmers.

Big news. seems like its going to happen too. I don't understand how he qualifies for the WP though, although he got one to France and Belgium, I thought the rules were stricter for the EPL. Born in the states with a nigerian father which would not qualify him and he doesn't have the caps to qualify. Although I'm sure if its SAF asking the appeals board may be a little more lenient as they were with Howard opposed to the Tottenham-Convey situation.

Gooch stands a better chance of gaining a Work Permit than Convey did with Tottenham

Does the fact that he is playing more frequently for the 6th ranked team in the world have any influence in him getting a WP?

Nope, but I'm sure Bruce Arena stating he's going to be in the First Team for a long time to come will help out immensely. If there is an appeal it will have to be for first team minutes with ManU also. There is no way you can win a permit appeal to be "coverage"

Good for Gooch, I see him pushing for first team action and quick. His physical attributes can't be denied.

They stick them there for 3 years and then I believe they qualify for Belgian Citizenship. Which enables them to play anywhere in the EU.

This is as far as i remember.

I doubt he qualifies for a UK Work Permit. Would certainly go to appeal but maybe a year too early for them to get one on appeal.
