1. Bats is struggling. I'm glad Lampard keeps giving him the responsibility. I know it's frustrating for fans, but it looks like our striking tandem for the rest of the year is Tammy and Bats. Bats' goal was luck, but he was in the right spot, took the shot and sometimes this is all a striker needs. Because we need him. 2. Kova - hell of a pass, shit job being in a wall. Stand up for the club, son. That kind of error, to me, is more egregious and unforgivable than anything Kepa has done. Where are all the statsmen, midfield coaches and the like, coming down on field players for dumb shit like not standing still in a wall? 3. Clever goal from Tomori. Well played and great run in the box. 4. 1917 was a decent movie, but not as special as some have made out. It'll win Best Cinematography.
1917 was so satisfying visually, much less so in terms of the storytelling. That left a lot to be desired but overall getting such a visceral lens into WW1 was a treat.
The detail of the trenches (especially the differences between the quality of the Germans compared to the Brits) was amazing. No man's land was incredible. The scene at night where the demolished town was lit up with flares was incredible and terrifying. The dumbest part - when the guy is with the girl and baby and they hear a church bell ring 6 in the distance. BITCH THEY AINT NO CHURCH TOWERS DING DONGING THE WORLD IS ON FIRE. So that took away a bit. I wish there was more battle scene action, but otherwise, good. Won't win best picture. Likely go to One Upon/Hollywood, which I thought was purely a masturbatory exercise by Tarantino devoid of any story. DiCaprio's character was entirely unnecessary, for example. A friend tried to defend the movie by discussing how it took viewers expectations of a typical Tarantino movie and turned it on its' head, but that shit is weak if you depend on viewers to take a director's previous work into account when watching the current one.
Agreed. I was told it was the best war movie since saving private Ryan. It was well acted, well shot, good story, and overall well done movie. But all time great it was not.
There were several cornball moments like what you mentioned... the whole interaction with the French girl among other scenes were bleh. As you say though, they did an insane job of showing “No Mans Land” and the trenches. That had me fascinated.
Lampard was pretty scathing in his post match. Good to see. Hope we can get one good attacking player this window although chances look slim.
I can feel his pain! Its the same old story game after game, should have been 0-5 but ended up 1-2, its so frustrating! The good news is that I don't think we are far away from being a fairly good side, perhaps RLC's return will be the catalyst for change? Very tough fixtures coming up, perhaps what we need.
