Forget Werner, we're signing MBAPPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://www.football365.com/news/liverpool-linked-kylian-mbappe-jurgen-klopp-huge-compliment
The Star cites a report from Spanish newspaper El Desmarque that claims Werner has snubbed Madrid after reaching a pre-agreement with Jurgen Klopp to join the European champions at the end of the season. https://football-talk.co.uk/155666/...uring-agreement-to-sign-51m-star-this-summer/
Shaqiri. The word is that Klopp has a definite role in mind for him and hence why loan moves to Roma and Seville(?) were shut down. But his persistent injuries at just the wrong times have left the club thinking that offers of £30m and above will be accepted in the summer. The idea then is to sign a younger replacement. The feeling is that he’s too good to merely play odd games here and there and allied to his injury problems and his age, a transfer just might be the way to go.
Im not sure Mbappe would fit into Klopp's system. As per recent quote of Jürgen: If you are not Messi or Ronaldo you need to defend. Also: Im not sure Mbappe would sustain the physical aspect of Klopp's system. Actually, I doubt it. Werner on the other hand could play LW or CF and sustain the physical demand. But Werner is a feeble boy and injury-prone as hell. He'd have to go to the gym for half a year until he reaches the state of current Firminho and light a candle in church every Sunday he doesnt get injured too often. Besides, Imo Erner is a on of a itch
Rather an interesting read (but I can’t remember where! ) on Coutinho. He’s struggling at Bayern and is on his way back to Barca at the end of the season, as Bayern will owe £100m if they hold on to him. Most observers, including Didi Hamman, have him not worth even half that. Barca have offered him to us for ~£90m which I suspect is probably the balance owed by them. We’ve said no. What made the read interesting was revisiting what Klopp apparently told him prior to his move. Klopp said that at Liverpool he’d be the focus and an integral part of the attack whereas he’d be just another player at Barca, Bayern, Real, PSG. Apparently Klopp went through 5-6-7 of Europe’s top clubs (i.e. those who could afford him) and showed where he’d fit in in all of them (some knowledge base, huh?). He told him that in each club he would not be as prominent as he was with Liverpool. He further told him that he didn’t think he would thrive in any situation where he wasn’t the focus of the team/attack. Certainly not as he was at Liverpool. He’s been just another player at both Bayern and Barca and has been a signal failure at both. Forgetting his LFC->Barca price tag, what is his worth these days on the open market? £40m+/-?
Being Bobby Duncan - Even Worse, the sequel in his continuing life story coming soon to a theatre near you. The highlights include: • Fiorentina looking to move him on now* • dumping his bolshie agent, Rubie • not breaking into the Fiorentina first team • only playing with the U-19 team • nobody being very surprised * Fiorentina have appealed to FIFA to allow them to let him leave as there’s a stipulation about signing for 3 different clubs in one season.
And now if he were to come back to Liverpool, we would no longer be able to make him the focus of our attack, and he would probably have the same struggles as he did at Barca and Bayern. Part of what makes Liverpool great is that there is no one player who is the focus of our attack. Even our two goal scoring forwards start from out wide. I think football has changed in that the classic #10 is no longer valued as much. In a 4-3-3, you need pace to play as a wide forward and work rate and defensive ability to play in midfield.
Good points in there-- the playing styles of the top teams and how a player such as Coutinho would fit in each one. Coutinho forgot about what had made him so good at Liverpool. By so obviously struggling at Barça and Bayern he's reinforcing that point. At least, he's well-paid for his troubles whichever way the chips eventually fall but so far it has been a mess from a professional point of view.
There are going to be fewer teams interested and buying players from us as they begin to figure out that while our players are very good it's Klopp's ability to to put them into a position to get the best out of their skill set that makes them great. Coutinho is a good example. The ability to have players that fit perfectly into each position and that system of play is the benefit of having a good manager that sticks around for a while. These other teams that change their managers every one to three years will never have a team of players that fit their system
Nah! Klopp has focused the team with Bobby as a deep 9. Phil could work as a sub in that spot but couldn't replace him.
I don't know if we would be better. Every midfielder we have is so much better defensively with him we would loose control of the midfield. Going forward he would have added a lot and would be scary with the front three we have
It’s hard to imagine any other scenario where we are as good as we are right now. Right now we might be the best team in the history of English football. Klopp desperately wanted him to stay, so he had a vision for the team that included Phil. Even after Phil left, Oxlade-Chamberlain played a crucial part and then Keita was brought in to be an attacking force in our midfield. The team has evolved, the fullbacks have become more and more important, and central midfielders are now expected to cover for the fullbacks. That wasn’t always the necessarily the plan. The team might need to evolve again some day and change the way we play to keep opponents from figuring us out.
In tennis there's a saying for a player that becomes dominant. Then people figure him out. (Unless his name is Federer) "We have the book on him" I suppose some day, some manager will figure out Klopp's book. But he's very adaptable. Packed defenses with the last 15 minutes trying to score while we supposedly tire. Hasn't worked that well except to frustrate us a tad.
Big news, Reds with @cfbayern confirming that Leverkusen expect a bid from Liverpool for Havertz 🇩🇪 https://t.co/2yOrPm7wng— Empire of the Kop (@empireofthekop) January 30, 2020 Ey, it would be really stupid not to believe in miracles And it would be too beautiful to not risk it
Mostly ankle and thigh muscle problems. The ankle problems were there from the beginning of his career
