No no... Just wanted to verify. Given that reports say he make 1000€ a month, it stunk of "agency"....
Some people on twitter though he went back to Wolfsburg, but Llanez is still with the national team. It's been a roller-coaster of a year for Uly Llanez, from tough early days in Germany, to the high of a U-20 World Cup, & tearing it up w/Wolfsburg's U19s. I think everyone assumed he was fluent in Spanish. Shout out to Michael Edwards for helping Uly with the transition to Germany. Wolfsburg is also the rumored landing spot for Bryang Kayo, and Kobe Hernandez-Foster has trialed there.
Scoring your first goal for @USMNT? 🙂 Scoring it on your debut? 😃Celebrating by honoring a legend? 💚👏🙏🐺The Young Wolf! The consensus was that Llanez being in January camp was a bad sign for his standing at Wolfsburg. I'm not so sure that is the case. Another reasonable explanation is that the US communicated to Wolfsburg that this was not a token call up or simply a preliminary Olympic call up and both sides agreed that this was the best opportunity for Llanez and his career at this point. His integration into the senior national team (even if it goes relatively slowly from here) is big for him as a player and his value in the market. The thinking was that he will not be integrated into the Wolfsburg first team since he wasn't with their first team over winter break. That is an ideal time to work a young player in, but there is still plenty of time for that to be done over the second half of the season, and Wolfsburg's position in the table makes this more than just a logical possibility. He's clearly above the U19 level. My money is still on Llanez becoming a first team player before the end of the season.
Very impressive debut for Uly. Wolfsburg could really use him right about now. Very slick on the ball and I love how he scans the field for his passes. Eager to see him develop.
reading about wolfsburg and seeing basically no track record of a pathway from the youth teams to the first team. makes this team selection all the more frustrating/confounding
I am eager to see what happens over the next couple of weeks. Wolfsburg may look at the results of his USMNT appearance and call him up.?.? He has literally done nothing but produce at the U19 level and then shines against a veteran CR squad....? How can you not want to be part of the US Youth Intl hype train? BVB is milking it with Gio... Wolfsburg should be trying to do the same with Uly. When a kid is ready you should strike while the iron is hot. Oddly enough, it looks like Brooks may have lost his starting role w/ Wolfsburg for the foreseeable future. We all know he had a terrible game two weeks ago but it was an outlier performance IMO. Kind of surprised they are punishing him this much. One bad game and you are out? After all that history of success? I could be overreacting here... I certainly hope that is the case.
To be honest with you this is the type of old school call up we used to do all the time and usually it warrants first team looks. I would be shocked if a healthy Llanez doesn't get at least three appearances before the end of the year unless he really plays poorly. Integrating him now makes him much more viable starting off next year.
Olympic qualifying is going to be priority for next camp, and it'd further help his case with the senior team if he plays well there. I'm presuming he'd be selected and made available if he's not w/ Wolfsburg 1st team by then. It's a win-win. The path to one first team or another is rather linear at this time.
Hype train speeding up a bit... here is a Bundesliga article about Uly: https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bunde...g-s-usa-midfielder-gregg-berhalter-usmnt-9029
Wolfsburg have added him to their Europa League roster https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=2638301.html?iv=true

This is the Uly portion. Not holding my breath but it is certainly a positive sign. Llanez surprise Surprisingly, the name of Ulysses Llanez also appears on the VfL list. The American with Mexican roots switched from LA Galaxy II to Wolfsburg U 19 last summer and drew attention to himself with ten goals in the A-Junior Bundesliga. So much so, in fact, that the 18-year-old winger was just appointed to the US national team for the first time, where he immediately scored a 1-0 victory over Costa Rica. Llanez is one of the greatest talents in the United States, in 2018 he won the CONCACAF U20 championship with his country's young talent, and he scored seven tournament goals. "He has characteristics that are interesting," says VfL managing director Jörg Schmadtke about the technically experienced and fast offensive man. "Maybe there will be a situation where we can throw him in." However, the manager immediately brakes expectations: "He is still young and will still have fluctuations in his performance." However, the nomination for the Europa League squad shows: VfL plans in the future with the youngster.

Ugh what’s holding him back from getting a first team debut? Is Wolfsburg coincidentally stacked at winger?
Stacked, no, but a lot of experienced professional depth. This season: Victor - 3 goals, 2 assists, 1,558 minutes Brekalo - 4 goals, 6 assists, 1,350 minutes Steffen - 2 goals, 2 assists, 1,177 minutes Klaus - 0 goals, 1 assist, 653 minutes And behind them is Ismael Azzaoui, who has 2 goals and 4 assists in ~800 minutes with the II team, playing out of position as a center attacking mid. The II team doesn't really use wingers, so there's no intermediate step up for Llanez. Wolfsburg's results have been ok for them, so maybe they're not eager to shake things up? They're only a couple of points off the European places, which is basically their ceiling. Though, besides Brekalo, the wingers aren't really putting up numbers that are anything to write home about, so you'd think they might want to try something new. Tl;dr: who knows, but if I were the manager, I'd be eager to see what Llanez can provide at the first team level.
Seriously... this is getting ridiculous. Some teams just don't promote youth players all that much. Uly has nothing left to prove at U19... the numbers are sic.
