I think the trend of early commits directly contributed to large numbers of kids transferring when they finally got a year or two into their college career. It's probably not all due to coaching changes, and there is likely a percentage of those kids that just didn't develop as anticipated, but 3 or 4 years is a long time to wait before suiting up for your school of choice. New coach comes in, player doesn't fit the system, the coach wants his / her own players, and playing time suffers. Maybe I am wrong, but I have to believe that the new recruiting rules will drastically lower the number of kids in the portal by slowing down the process, and shortening the window between verbally committing and playing.

Start a new thread. You'll get responses. The transfer portal gives players a lot of new control over their college career - for better or worse. There is now a secondary recruiting market for transfers and it is a significant change, especially when all the players out there begin to realize what they can do with it.
Answer - more difficult for coaches. At least much more complicated.

Relative to hot seat - when a coach announces they are going to leave, any number of players can immediately get into the portal and see who reaches out to them, so the delays and mistakes made by lazy ADs with no plans for new coaches will now be amplified somewhat. Players don't have to wait and see what new coach they might get, and even if they do wait, they can have a plan ready to leave immediately at the next semester break.

Hi! Anyone hear anything about Diego B's contract being renewed at Houston? It's up in February and I wonder if his involvement w the rhabdo stuff will impact a renewal?

Not a shock that interviews are happening and the job hasn’t even been posted as open. I hope the new coach gets a 5-6 year contract. It will take that long to fix the past 2 years at the least.

Curious to hear thoughts from posters on this forum. Apparently at the convention in Baltimore last week there was a presenter who is basically an agent and he spoke of his experience and getting into the women's game. http://coachesinc.com/company/staff/garry-rosenfield was the guy's background. I wasn't there but other coaches who were there said he represented a number of coaches in women's basketball, was now getting into women's volleyball, and now starting to connect with women's soccer coaches and even gave a couple recent examples. Could help with contract negotiations, helping to network with ADs, and also assist coaches with issues pertaining to wrongful termination, Title IX issues, player legal issues, etc. Anyone familiar with this? I know of football and men's basketball coaches having their agents, also athletics directors, and even football assistant coaches/coordinators having agents where they can now get multi-year deals which wasn't always the case. What does this mean for women's soccer? Could be somewhat of a game changer, in a good or bad way depending how one looks at it.

    Jimmy Walker to Bowling Green.

I am surprised at the silence in relation to Long Islands hire and will be curious to see if there are posts about this one.

How Rockwood is still at BYU, Ward at Pepperdine, Smith at Santa Clara, Woodward at Seattle, coach at Georgetown and on and on can only be explained by they have not been offered jobs with big $$$. Agent influence would drive up salaries and help schools make more educated hiring decisions at the major schools. Big teams would get better because schools would care more once they invest more $$$.

I think are mistaken if you think that being a P5 is always a better situation in women’s soccer.
BYU can match anything the P5’s can offer Rockwood and can’t match the religious angle, which is a big part of her success.
UW did offer Woodward and couldn’t come up with enough to entice her to move about 3 miles, and the attempt by Norte Dame to lure Smith away after the Waldrum fiasco is well documented. SCU matched and exceeded ND in their counter.
Smith is probably doing better than all but one or two PAC 12 coaches, for example, between his SCU salary, shoe deal, and the facilities available for he and Brandi to run camps. And where would you rather live in the Winter?.

I do think that could be one positive if an agency like Coaches, Inc. got into the women’s soccer market. Having a knowledgeable agent that actually knows the market and the candidates and can talk to ADs who are otherwise clueless about women’s soccer could then limit the amount of stupid hires (like LSU this year). And perhaps an agent with a knowledge base about what the salaries are could help push those schools to money up and not low ball candidates, which is a positive for the coaches’ side:

But who would hire the agent? The AD? The future coach? If it's the AD, how do you know that the agent would know the candidate well enough to decide if he/she was good enough for the program? And what would keep a coach from hiring his/her own agent. I'm not sure women's college soccer is a big enough money maker to warrant the hiring of agents.

The coach hires the agent. There are several coaches that already have agents.

Every D1 school has a shoe deal.

just be careful who your sponsor allies itself with.

most D1 schools have athletic gear deals with Nike, Underarmor, adidas, etc. At the schools I am familiar with student athletes get all kinds of gear including shoes every season. The school gets a discount on purchasing this gear. Maybe the MFB and MBB coaches get something out of it besides the gear but its a long trickle down to WSOC.

The players are indeed spoiled these days with gear compared to what we used to get in college a decade/two decades ago. Two pairs of running shoes, two pairs of cleats, tons of practice shirts, two sets of warm ups, lounge clothes, 4 pairs of shorts, hoodies, backpacks, balls, sports bras. We got next to nothing when we played other than cleats, 2 sets of practice gear, and warm ups. Even those were fundraised a lot of times to help pay for it. Anyways, I'm a dinosaur. Coaches at schools with big contracts, in big sports they can get money for winning titles and bonuses such as basketball or football. Soccer, all we get which isn't bad, is when we win a conference title or make the NCAA tourney they give our coaching staff bonus gift cards for shopping, for example $1,000 to $2,000 each coach for nike or Adidas gear for personal clothes. So you can wear their gear around for whatever you want and rep them. Not a bad deal. I'd prefer cash though over clothes since we already get a few thousand for gear each fall for coaches budget for stuff we want. Still grateful. :)

UAPB is open. Coach Winzer resigned due to an internal investigation. UAPB must have a college record for coaches.... going on 5 coaches in 5 years now.

A lot of schools get that already (assistants included) for finishing last. A promo card to get non school logo gear to wear in public is pretty normal these days. Bigger school, bigger contract with that brand. $5k for a head coach is not that uncommon. They do get taxed on it as a fringe benefit.

I'm not sure where you get your information - but rarely does a D-1 school get that much gear for their student-athletes - especially men's or women's soccer.
