I wouldn't be surprised if Scaloni does give him a shot at some point... I mean he's calling up a relatively unknown forward who plays in the German second division and has given plenty of chances to Gio Simeone. He has shown to keep an eye on the Mexican league by calling up guys like Guido Rodriguez (who I still don't get) and Marchesin (while he was still playing for America), so who knows.. Still, I'd imagine in a hypothetical situation that Rogelio does receive a call-up it would be after June, since Scaloni seems pretty decided on not disrupting his consolidated roster barring a notable exception.

To be fair, FM9 has improved a significant amount since his days in River. He has been banging in 20+ goals per season year after year now and has reached the centennial mark for Monterrey, becoming their second top scorer of all time. Yeah, I know, it's the Mexican league, but we're talking about technique and talent here -- it doesn't matter if you're playing in the Premier League or at your local Sunday league... class is class

Never in a million years did I think I'd use the term "technique" when referring to Funes Mori, but hats off to him for improving so much over the years. He's been scoring bicycle kicks, headers, long range shot, chip shots, tap-ins, backheels.... pretty much every type of goal.

As for him playing for Mexico -- yes, you're right: after Martino became NT coach he expressed his desire to represent el tri. However, FIFA determined he couldn't play for them since he represented our youth NT in an official tournament (Sudamericano Sub-20 2011). He also played for the senior NT under Sabella in the 2012 Superclasico de las Americas, although that shouldn't be a deterrent since it wasn't an official FIFA match if I'm not mistaken. Either way, it looks like he's trying to appeal to FIFA to let him represent Mexico before the WC comes around, but at least for now he is ineligible for them.

Kranevitter is finally leaving Russia and is set to sign for Monterrey...

I know River is the best team in the world, but dear god I’ve never seen a team want to be us that bad. Kranevitter, Vangioni, Barovero, Nico Sanchez, Rogelio FM.... not long ago Carlos Sanchez was their star player also, and believe it or not they previously had an unsuccessful attempt to snatch Gallardo from us. Oh, and at the beginning of last year they enquired about Rafael Santos Borre, but D’Onofrio quickly shut them down.

As the cherry on top, it looks like they’re currently making moves to sign Ramiro Funes Mori too...

Mexican football is certainly a sad thing. I know we have our serious problems in Argentina, but the teams there aren't even clubs, they're franchises that move around the country as soon as they perform badly or need a new stadium. Its a complete circus.

Mexican football benefits from that country's massive population and proximity to the US, which boosts its trade. Monterrey is owned by a massive bottling company.

ITs very sad that we have to play second fiddle to clubs from mexico in terms of signing players, luckily when it comes to battles on the pitch, we have always wiped them aside.
