Lots of new signings for MLS teams this offseason. The quality of play is going to continue to rise. But that's not important. What's important is that Nashville is trying to steal our colors from us! https://www.footyheadlines.com/2020/01/nashville-sc-2020-mls-kit.html I thought they were going to be yellow and blue, but it looks like they're straight up going for yellow and black. Those bastards!
All new jerseys for this season are supposed to be officially announced by February 5, but lots have been leaking out. The worst seems to be poor old Cincinnati's home kit. (If this leak is real. It could be fake I guess.) Maybe this will grow on me when I see it in a game, but my first impression is that it's awful: https://www.footyheadlines.com/2020/01/fc-cincinnati-2020-home-kit.html
Lets all point at the KFC Food Lion jersey and laugh! OTOH, ****** you, Nashville. WE are the Yellow Soccer Team. (And block O’s should NEVER be yellow!)
I figured this would happen. The conspiracy theorist in me is even willing to believe that the league (read: Don) would actively encourage them to use yellow as a primary just to try to foil us somehow or undermine us someway. Wait til we have a home game against them and they wear yellow shirts and we wear black! They arent this season, but eventually Nashville will be in our conference. Are we seriously going to have two primarily Yellow teams in one conference. That's ridiculous. But MLS gonna MLS. I doubt that that's black in the images, even though it appears extremely dark there. Probably a navy blue of sorts.
I mean, I know we have historically stood out in yellow. But there are only so many colors. D.C., Atlanta, and RBNY all use red and black. The Fire did. Not sure what they are now. And Toronto is also primarily red. Not saying I'm thrilled about it, but it's going to happen.
I fear we have conceded the "Black and Gold" moniker to LAFC, who seem to really be pushing it. Our color nevers really have been gold, but it is the address of the stadium.
if cleazer wants my pitchfork and torch, as always, I will pledge them. But Nashville's secondary color is navy and it appears they are shifting towards a more greenish "safety vest" color instead of our canary yellow. On the other hand, and I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think that high vis kit might be the first kit that conflicts directly with the banana kit which would force us into the secondary (Dynamo orange might be another, I did a quick GIS search and didn't see a picture of orange vs yellow). But even with that knowledge, I can't get too upset because there's only so many colors and new teams dilute the options even more. And if we can't wear the banana kit at Nashville, that just means they can't wear the high vis kit in Columbus (unless Crew choose to wear black at home which is something they already do at a rate that I am not happy with).
I feel like I have seen orange vs yellow once or twice in Houston games with us. Maybe not though. Maybe I just remember being happy that we got to see yellow vs white.
I feel like we should all just take a second to point and laugh at Chicago. It's never a bad time to do that, of course, but this offseason has been a particularly brutal one in a long line of them. There was of course the 100% reviled MS paint atrocity they released as a new logo, followed by inexplicably waiting until something like 3 weeks ago to finally, mercifully, fire their lame duck coach and GM. They made some underwhelming hires as replacements-I cant even remember who, and I can't imagine anyone arguing that it even matters-because!-preseason starts later this week. Chicago currently has, as of today 16(!!) players on their roster. I haven't even delved into the whole Chicharito debacle-they supposedly were hot on his trail in the fall of '19 and had lofty ambitions to return back to Soldier Field with the biggest name in Mexico in bright lights in front of a packed house in downtown Chicago, ready to put the putrid stench of 2010-2019 finally behind them. WELP. Maybe they can convince Eric Gehrig to come out of retirement? They're going to need some warm bodies. Go ahead and write these guys down, in marker, for the wooden spoon. All those sewer people who reveled in our team being potentially taken away can go ahead and enjoy their 75% empty NFL stadium and their Sesame Street looking badge and most of all their absolute embarrassment of a last place utterly hopeless organization.
Yeah, the F*re dumped talent this offseason without replacing them. They just gave away Dax McCarty who can still play. Let Katai go to LA for free. Nikolic left, Schweinsteiger retired. They don't have much.
It was a crime that Colorado wore their road yellow in MAPFRE against us in September 2017. An absolute crime. It should never have happened, and it should never happen again. (S#!tc@go had a yellow third kit one year, and they beat us at home in an Open Cup game wearing it. That was also criminal.) It’s inevitable that another team will wear black in Columbus. But yellow should never happen. Columbus in yellow, Nashville in navy blue.
I don’t remember a yellow vs orange. I think we’ve usually worn black when playing in Houston. I did see part of an African Cup of Nations game one year—Cote d’Ivoire vs somebody—which was orange vs yellow. It wasn’t that hard to distinguish. And a Portlandia-Seattle game last year featured forest green vs rave green. Not sure how they allowed that to happen.
There's the history I was looking for. And I should have remembered the Colorado yellow jersey because that was a game I was at and mad about Crew wearing black at home. I had no idea about the Fire yellow 3rd kit which appears to be from 2004. I can't find specific language dictating the process but everything I see says the home team gets to pick the jersey they are going to wear so these are all self inflicted wounds by the Crew.
Yeah I dont care if another team(s) winds up using yellow, but they could at least not have a solid yellow shirt like us. At least their shade is different, a little more brighter/neon. If they could actually add some blue in with it, I would be less annoyed. I just mostly care that were always thought of as "the yellow team".
Sports Illustrated: Javier “Chicharito” Hernández has signed a contract with LA Galaxy that will make him MLS’s highest-paid player. @CH14_ https://t.co/lozmzAxr6V— Subscribe to GrantWahl.com (@GrantWahl) January 17, 2020
Small urine will do zip for the Gals. They're in a street fight with LAFC for the market and they've been losing. This is a desperate attempt to stay relevant, nothing more.
Is he even as good as Zlatan, the guy they lost? I'd think he's probably not. No doubt it will be good for LAG marketing though.
Not even in same galaxy sneaky as Zlatan. The Lion eats Little Peas as a side dish. Ya'll know that's what Chicharito means right?
Is Chicharito as good as Zlatan? No. Let’s get one thing straight, besides Messi and Ronaldo, a very real case can be made that Zlatan is the best player of the past 20 years. The level and longevity of his play is matched only by those other two players. Now, for marketing purposes, is Chicharito a better signing than Zlatan? For Mexicans and Mexican-Americans, yes. I’d imagine for European soccer fans, Zlatan is more relevant. So LAG is going with the old-timey theory of bringing in the hispanic market. Is this a better strategy in LA than Columbus? Sure. All that being said, is LA a better ‘team’ with Chicharito than Zlatan? Probably, hard to say. While Chicharito will be the name on the marquee, I think Cristian Pavon and Jonathan Dos Santos are more important. They can create and Chicharito can make runs and create space up front while poaching balls into the box, as opposed to just giving Zlatan the ball and letting him beat teams singlehandedly.
Atlanta traded Gressel to DC. Atl is really putting all their eggs in the De Boer basket, and it could blow up in their faces.
Nagbe, Pirez and now Gressel. ATL better have some replacements lined up cause the fans cant be happy.
