Watching highlights. Mariano shot at middle when he had space. Don't see the point of him staying unless he's only interested about money with very little playing time. I think Reinier can play upto 10 games with senior team while registered with Castilla. Would rather him get some minutes as 3rd choice forward if needed.
I hated Jović negativity today. He almost looked like hiding behind defenders in the penalty area. In multiple occasions, Mendy gets the ball on the flank, and Jović (who is completely alone at the top) runs away to other side. I would understand if there was someone close behind who would benefit from such movement. Very very frustrating performance from Jović.
Jovic was bad in the first half. But showed some quality in the second. The one he missed by a whisker would have been a great individual goal. He has his share of bad luck. Hit the woodwork with headers against Valladolid and Betis.
Zidane has really turned the team around these last couple of months. Great to see. Valverde MOTM, even before that game-saving tackle. He was everywhere, once again. What a player he's become! Courtois is a close second. He's become so reliable. Must have been a confidence issue.
🔴🎙️SIMEONE, sobre la ROJA de VALVERDE: "Fue la jugada más importante del partido de Valverde. Le dije: "No te preocupes, cualquiera hubiera hecho lo mismo en tu lugar""¡A las 12 de la noche hay @elchiringuitotv! pic.twitter.com/Lwyer103Fd— El Chiringuito TV (@elchiringuitotv) January 12, 2020 Simeone on the red card: “It was the most important play of the game. I told him: Don’t worry, anyone would have done the same in that situation”
Respect. At least he is no hypocrite. I don’t understand how people can’t believe Fede did what he did. It’s professional sport and we won because of that action. It’s not that he broke someone’s leg.
In fairness, he's not getting any playing time and still came in and put in a shift. I don't have any issue with his efforts today.
I think he is told to do this, as Benz does the same thing (drifts away from the ball) when we have it on our right. Guy needs to play more and Zidane needs to find ways to get more out of him. That’s clear. So great to hear we buried them again in PKs. Couldn’t watch but was checking the phone. Zidane continues to know what it takes in finals. Long may it last.
After the tackle...I thought a guy like Simeone would especially appreciate such sacrifice and commitment.
Damn, so James is 0 for 9 in finals with Zidane, that's got to be a record or something. Even Mariano got picked ahead of him along with a couple of teenagers, that's cold. Zidane had already clearly set up Mariano as the outcast, then bam rubs it all in James face during a final. Even played a formation with not 1 but 2 attacking midfielders, no worries though everyone will have six days rest before the next game. LOL, can't make this up. IDK, I don't think I've ever seen anything as strange as this in all of sports.
Yea, but he's only 26 and shouldn't waste his career here with very little playing time. He could be starting for some La Liga clubs. Should move in this window. Don't think his salary is that high that he will have to take a significant paycut. I think he loves being at RM a lot, but clearly there won't be chances once Benz is back.
The other great thing about this win is that it's a big bonding and character building event for our new young players. We have a lot of new players who've never played at this level and had to deal with these type of situations. Builds that Real Madrid mentality in them and prepares them emotionally for these kind of tough moments. Very positive to get this trophy.
It is a meaningless trophy. We said that before the tournament, and nothing since has changed that. What we did get out of this though is valuable experience for some of our youngsters in high pressure games. This game didn't feel like a friendly, it actually felt like a final. And the pressure of the penalties. I think we learned a lot about this squad here today.
Let’s put that 11.5m into the “Mbappe fund cookie jar”. In all seriousness, whilst it might feel like a pointless tournament, it’s a decent revenue source for us. Just helps to make us more competitive in the transfer window in the summer.
Florentino: "After many years you don't suffer as much. With penalties you need luck. Atletico were a dignified rival. Courtois is the best GK in the world. Fede was extraordinary. There were many Madridistas in KSA. Ramos? I told him he made us suffer with that penalty." pic.twitter.com/x5l26QYuU1— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) January 12, 2020 Florentino: "A good start to the year. We are very grateful and very happy. They've given us the opportunity to play in this format and I think we're worthy champions against a big opponent. Zidane was made for finals. I congratulate him and hope he brings us more titles."— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) January 12, 2020 Florentino: "Fede is one of the revelations of this season. You never know what may or may not have happened after his red card but he prevented a goal chance for Morata which made this possible. [Atletico's president] Cerezo behaved like a gentleman. He has a great team."— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) January 12, 2020 Florentino: "It's a blessing to have Zidane with us. [Winter signings?] There will be.... NONE."— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) January 12, 2020
Who would take the 11.5/"Title" if the return is dropping three points against Sevilla in a week because Fede is out. I'm not a fan of the starting the year off with a trip to the middle east to fill up the petty cash drawer. I think in the future the team that decides to just turn around and come home is going to be better off than the one that decides they may as well stick around for a second game after having made the long trip out there.
Rodrygo: "When they were deciding who should take one [penalties in the shootout] I waited a bit, as there were others with more experience. Kroos said that I should take one. He insisted, saying 'Rodrygo, Rodrygo'..." pic.twitter.com/uqFYDOmdwY— M•A•J (@Ultra_Suristic) January 12, 2020 Kroos knows a Shooter when he sees one
