Valverde's departure could be a matter of hours. Pimienta will take over until the end of the season. [cat radio]— barcacentre (@barcacentre) January 12, 2020
Mr. "have been following Barca since Cruyff", Valverde's Barcelona team is easily better than many a Barca team that was getting humiliated for years. As @Zidane05 says, you really don't know how terrible Barca were. UEFA cup tier.
I like how people safely assume that somebody that has never coached in Europe will do a better job than Ernesto. If I have a spot open tomorrow morning I hire Valverde 10/10 times.
The exception doesn't make the rule. Not knowing what's behind the curtain would you rather hire the otherwise unexperienced Al Sadd coach, or somebody that has won multiple. League titles in multiple champions league participating countries? Hm, tough call.
Some players have become successful coaches like ZZ, Pep, Conte, but there are many who have flopped badly as well like Ciro Ferrara, Seedorf, Gattuso etc. Expect Ole to join the sacked list this summer. Not sure Xavi is ready to be the coach of a club like Barcelona yet.
There are more failed ones than successful ones. Klinsmann, Matthäus are also very notable examples. Effenberg was a catastrophe, as well as Mario Basler. All pretty much historic players.
Isn't Valverde's contract up in the summer anyways? Why are they pulling their hair out now when they can just wait till the summer and tell him where to shove it. If it's due to performances then he should've been sacked after the Liverpool loss last season not this season when they are topping the league and won their group comfortably in the CL
Seems like a really knee jerk reaction. They are joint leaders in the league and still have CL football to compete for. If you aren't bringing in a permanent replacement now, then what's the point of changing managers.
Playing in La Masia > coaching in Europe Edit: On a serious note, I think valverde is a competent coach. Their squad is just getting old and losing some of the desire. The signings haven't been right either, they need to find the right balance between talent and staying true to their philosophy and that isn't happening.
Sergio Agüero becomes the all-time top-scoring foreign player in Premier League history with 176 goals. 👑An outstanding record. pic.twitter.com/sWl2Xjpz0i— Squawka (@Squawka) January 12, 2020
