Now we did at 42. MLS seems to have stopped listing positions. Josh Fawole Loyola - Maryland D.C. United acquired the pick from Portland via a trade on 1/23/18 Thx, Jay!
DCU gets forward Josh Fawole from Loyola Maryland. His highlight film show classy finishing. Loudon bound, no doubt.
I think the draft is evolving into a way to stock up USL rosters. Right now, DCU has Seitz as the natural backup to Hamid, which is about as good a depth at that position as you find in MLS. Earl Edwards is the presumptive #1 at Loudoun and "Big Frenchie" can be the #2 and maybe replace Edwards at some point. Remember if Hamid either goes on NT duty or goes down with an injury (which occurs at least once a season), somebody from Loudoun is backing up Seitz for a game or two. As for the #2 pick, DCU did a kid who went to school locally a solid. He can play at Loudoun next season and maybe carve out a career in the Second Division. There was chatter about Miami's pick of the Hermann winner this year. How many of those guys have been impact players recently? IIRC, Ian Harkes was a Hermann winner and now he's playing in the Scottish Second Division. The college draft will soon rival the drafts of discarded players in MLS for excitement and relevance.
GM Dave Kasper says Lefebvre trained with DCU first team for a few weeks last summer. They like him a lot and think he has a promising future, beginning at Loudoun.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) January 9, 2020
I know, that's the one I was using to keep track (to look at in 3-5 years to see who's still around, lol), just noting I found him on the SBI one I printed - SBI list is harder to read and write on, but was much more accurate in guessing pick #s (at least in first half of round 1, teams then started going crazy all over the place )
Thibaut Courtois is 6'6" and looks like an ungainly puppy in goal. I'll be interested to see how this kid moves and plays. You're sure not getting on over him, but the lower shot is easier to hit than the high on over say a 6'3" keeper who can probably be a lot more athletic. Did anyone bother to check to see if he's good with his feet?
Some Friday night #DCU news: I'm told United are signing 16yo academy talent Kevin Paredes to an MLS Homegrown deal. Will bring him to preseason with their 1st team. Gifted attacker, reliable scorer dating back to U14 level. Scored for US U16s @ recent Nike Friendlies.— Charles Boehm (@cboehm) January 11, 2020
