Bring forth the #10 Luca Modric deck chair along with a presentation of the finest meats and cheeses and some freebased Geritol
Atlanta and LAFC were smart, they ushered in the era and got the first cheap transfers of MLS3.0. Almiron and Vela type deals will never happen again. Enough MLS owners have money that no one will ever be sold cheap to an MLS team again.
Obviously, Modric is a long shot but if we got him and the new Peruvian, we could have a lot of cool national team jerseys in the stands. Get a Dutch player next....
According to Goff, DC United have reached contract terms with Brian Lozano. However, there's no official deal yet, as Santos Laguna are asking for a big transfer fee (in a deleted tweet, Goff said that fee is $12M+, but a reposted tweet removed that number), and the two teams haven't agreed to transfer terms. Goff has also tweeted that the team has pivoted to two European players, and are close to reaching deals with both of them. Neither are DP level players.
See I am accused of trolling. When I am not. I am giving my opinion be it right or wrong. I am not looking for a response, which is the goal of a troll. I like seeing you guys/gals disagree with me. It makes for hearty discussions. No, I am simply old and set in my ways and thoughts. Not trolling for reactions. Asad shows up one match then goes away for four matches. Sorry but that is no better than a pretty deck chair. Ariola has an off games every four to five games then is back on. When your negative/useless matches out number your good matches that makes you a deck chair. Moreno started out as a deck chair. Now he is a comfy recliner. I have seen ZERO of Flores so he starts as a deck chair and can move up from there. Kamara is on three games then off one, but still in the black as far as numbers.
I'm having trouble thinking of something small enough to indicate my estimate of the likelihood of that happening.
Reporter: Luka, why did you choose to come to DC United? Luka: I look forward to passing to great scorers such as *checks notes* Quincey... America. Wait no I mean *refreshes Wikipedia* Yow
Modrich does not carry the publicity factor of Rooney. Sure within the soccer world we know who he is but Timmy (Millennial) Smith has no idea who he is. Timmy won't be buying a ticket to see Luka. Now as Shammy points out who will Luka pass the ball to? Kamara? Arriola? Asad? That will be worth 4 extra goals. A giant waste of money to sign him. I would rather have an up and coming Dutch, German, Austrian player.
Not that it means anything, but I've never heard of the guy I'm sure I've heard his name at some point in some story about a game I didn't care much about or something, then promptly forgot it again.
Honduran media reports that former #DCU midfielder Andy Najar is looking for a move out of Anderlecht after lack of playing time.Report states Najar "would return to the club that saw him become a footballer" through a mechanism but was not explained. United sold Najar in 2013. https://t.co/TodZ8ngkzu— José Mauricio Umaña (@Jose_M_Umana) January 6, 2020
I was wondering about Najar as well. I also was wondering about Benito Cheeto's immigation policies. Remember Najar came to the US illegally as a teenager (was it Tenorio or Goff who wrote of his growing up in Honduras and solo trip north to rejoin his mother?) Anyway, unless something in his residence/citizenship status has changed, he would need a visa to return and would his earlier illegal entry now bar him from receiving the visa?
yeah, I've seen that mentioned in every story. Which makes it seem like I'd remember his name for that if nothing else - not like I watch Spanish soccer - but here we are - the guy's name recognition potential is low apparently I do know one other player on his team's name, but only because the US soccer press loves the guy a little too much and he's also in the real news often for more unsavory things. Bootsy assures me he's definitely not coming anyway so I can go back to not caring who he is Somehow overnight, twitter has gone from being excited about Lozano to being sure he's not coming, though I can't find the news that made that happen - maybe Goff saying the transfer price was too high - but that's usually a negotiation snag and often gets worked out.
I think the story was that United and Lozano have contract terms agreed to (good!), but Santos Laguna is asking too high a transfer fee for him (bad!), which may likely quash any momentum in getting Lozano signed.
In Russell Canouse news, Dynamo Dresden, the 2. Bundesliga side interested in him, offered DC United a $300,000 loan offer for Canouse for the remainder of Dresden's season, in addition to paying Canouse's salary. United said no, but talks remain ongoing, as Dresden's offer isn't close to what United is looking for.
Timmy Millennial might buy tickets if the team suddenly started winning and getting a lot of buzz, though, which Luka Modric would certainly make more likely than an up-and-coming Austrian player would. I don't think it's going to happen, but I don't think it would be bad for business if it did.
