Tammy obviously deserves it more. The CHO contract was kind of ridiculous IMO... but he has been in the Chelsea system for a long time and is obviously well regarded as a future footballer. Not seeing all that much from him yet... but he is still very young. I think Frank has hurt the team at times by giving him minutes in key parts of games when leaving CP on would have been the better strategy... but CHO certainly has talent and I still think he could be an excellent attacking option in the not-too-distant future.
The Lampard-CHO relationship is a hot topic, and it must be fun to write the headlines, even if the underlying material is somewhat repetitive. Grabbing the first three from a Google search: Sky Sports Frank Lampard says Callum Hudson-Odoi "needs to do a lot more" but defended the Chelsea winger amid criticism from some fans. It has been ... The Sun FRANK LAMPARD is urging Callum Hudson-Odoi to ignore the Twitter trolls and focus on reigniting his Chelsea career. The teenage winger ... Daily Mail Frank Lampard is confident Callum Hudson-Odoi can rediscover his best form soon after holding a series of heart-to-heart chats with the winger ...
Um... Ok. I mean Jozy has what, nearly 450-500 career games under his belt at 30 and is still active. I don't know where you'd find the stats on average pro-soccer games-missed-due-to-injury-per-game by player, but I'd bet Jozy is below average in # of matches missed due to injury. But I'll also admit to simply guessing and being too lazy to do the required research. Perhaps some budding sports stats nerd can do it for me...
Cool. Now where's the young pup gonna crunch some numbers for us? I took a quick look at some seasons for Jozy (I think these are right). 11/12 missed 1 or 2 club games due to injury, played 52. 12/13 missed 0 club games due to injury, played 41 13/14 missed 0 club games due to injury, played 40. 14/15 missed 2 club games due to muscle injury played 40. 15/16 was his first bad year (maybe it's MLS?!) played 29, missed 14
I don't know how accurate Transfermark's notation of games missed due to injury are, but according to them he only missed 1 club game due to injury before moving to Toronto, fwiw. Maybe it's less bulk and more Lake Ontario.
Frank has given CHO a ton of opportunities and he hasn't really produced. It shows a ton of confidence in him IMO and I expect it to continue. They paid him a ton of money and he is part of the current franchise dream... i.e. having 3 young English players leading the team (Tammy, Mount and CHO)... four if you include RLC... who I think could be the best of the bunch. CP is going to have to play significantly better than CHO to be first choice.
Not necessarily. Willian is not going to be around after this season. Willian wants that LAST big fat contract, and Chelsea is not going to give it. So beyond this season, I could see both Pulisic and CHO starting on the wings. Unless they go for Sancho, then Pulisic really need to step up his production to get on the pitch.
In England, a few judicious injuries would have helped Jozy not to have such horrible goals-to-minutes ratio.
I meant this season.... because Chelsea will most certainly spend the money on another high priced winger before the start of next season.
While his regular season record is better than expected, what most people (especially USMNT fans) remember is Jozy has missed more big tournaments than he's been part of due to injuries: 2011 Gold Cup 2014 World Cup 2015 Gold Cup 2016 Copa America 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs That's pretty exceptional.
Sure, but not the question at hand. He was unnaturally healthy for club before moving to MLS, it seems (and that was surprising to me). So I'm not sure the bulk is the likely culprit of his Toronto injuries. I blame too much roti or Tim bits.
But he wasn't unnaturally or even naturally healthy. He routinely got injured in the summer at the end of his club season (I could add him missing the back end of 2014 WCQ in 2013, as well, so you've got like 4 consecutive years of missing big summer tournaments). The only difference with Toronto is he moved to a league that plays in the summer. But I agree it's probably not because of his bulk. It's an issue he's had before he "bulked up".
I never understood why people here often post something as if it were fact, like they just got done talking to the player (or manager or club prez).
I was gonna say, most of the articles I’ve seen say that Willian loves chelsea, and negotiations are ongoing https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.in...-new-contract-frank-lampard-a9260371.html?amp
It's a pretty weird pattern, then. Goes ~40 games over at least 5 seasons with only 1 or 2 missed club games due to injury, but gets hurt almost every summer? Then injured in MLS. Air travel?
Based on historical data. When was the last time Chelsea gives a rich multi years contract to a 31 year old (soon to be 32)?
It's an internet soccer forum. 99% of the stuffs people write on here are non facts. You should already know that.
Who knows, maybe the Chinese or the Arabs? Lots of players go to those places for their last BIG payday. I just don't think Chelsea is going to hand out a 3 years contract, which I would think Willian would seek to ensure he'll be paid well for the next several years before retirement.
You said he wants a last big payday. If anything the evidence shows that's not the case, if he wanted that he'd be going to China or something, not talking about how he'd love to come back to Chelsea in a rotation role.
