I actually think that Pulisic can do himself a lot of good is he bulks up a bit in the gym and is able to muscle people of the ball more.

Based on what I see today, there's absolutely no reasons to start CHO or Mount ahead of him in the next game.

But the only person thay matter is what Lamp thinks.

but .... he is box to box ... and that is exactly what Lampard wants.

I just don't think box to box with hustle and selfishness pans out well over the long term when you need one touch to break down an opponent.

It might work in the Championship but does it work consistently in the top four?

    I just don't think so.

I want to see Lampard learn from how Klopp coaches.

it is actually pretty easy - switch Mount and Pulisic.

But Pulisic is not box to box physically imposing ....

he would provide more creativity going forward.

I would actually love to see Kante behind Pulisic for a few matches.

Kante is trying to play offensive mid - which does not suit what Chelsea needs right now.

Shooting in traffic is in his skill set. He likes to use defenders ask screeners on his shots. I would also add that, despite the marker, CHO had a pretty clean look at the goal, and the keeper was planted right in the middle, leaving that top corner very much open. Any decent player should be able to get that shot at least on goal, forcing the keeper to make an amazing save. I like Pulisic's chances on that one, it is well within his abilities. That was the best look any Chelsea player had in those last 15-20 minutes that I watched. And it was two points lost for Chelsea, because they couldn't restore the lead. FWIW, Abraham is a handful for defenders, but I don't see him creating a goal for himself when he's not in the box. They need another credible threat to open up space.

It might be in his skill set, but he hasn't been using it well. I can easily see Pulisic also miss that shot based on how he's shooting lately. Pulisic's best chances this game, which were good chances, were't even on target.

Agreed. There is no teamwork or flow in this group. CHO is utterly selfish. What F4ank sees 8n him is beyond me.

This. His skill set is rather limited. I don't think he'd really be a decent squad player for a top team as he isn't versatile enough to play multiple positions well. He's not an awful player, he just isnt the type who contributes a lot to a title contender.

Yep. And the folks on here who are most critical of pulisic are basically just encouraging him to be selfish too by shooting more and chasing stats to earn more pt.

Germany, Portugal, France, Spain, Italy have all won the world cup in the past 20 years....England last won a World Cup in 1966....No reason why these European teams should be rated above them.

I'm sure many are talking about them actually winning a World Cup....Not 4th place finish...They were actually beaten in the semi-final in 2018..

Even the likes of Croatia and Belgium are currently regarded as better than them with lower-regarded leagues and less money

Not only that, they've never won a European Championship Cup while being the oldest Football nation in Europe.

But my main point here is they've long been discontent in the press about so many foreigners populating the top 4 English team and it being a reason why the English National team is not doing much better in these International competition..

Why should France and Germany and Italy be doing better when the English have the top earning league at their disposal.

    1. What year did Portugal win the World Cup?
    2. Yes, there is a reason the other nations won. They have more people. England is the smallest European nation to have won one.

Mount is better in the midfield IMO... hustling around and trying to win the ball back. CP would do well there as well... he would be more creative by a pretty wide margin IMO... but would likely win less tackles. Furthermore, CP doesn't seem to get the benefit of the doubt much on fouls. He gets hacked a lot and the refs let it go. No excuses though... he needs to play like he did to start the 2nd half. Why Frank would pull him is beyond me... especially for CHO. I can't really fathom why he gets so much love.... he is getting chance after chance and not producing.... yet the commentators keep gushing over his talent. At any rate, is it a coincidence that the team keeps giving up points when CP comes off the pitch? I am not so sure... because CP certainly garners a ton of attention from opposing Ds. Willian might be the player that needs the rest the most... he has been playing most minutes... but CP needs an assist/goal ASAP. Plenty of blame to go around for him not getting them but it has been a while... so he needs to do whatever it takes to get it done.

I wonder sometimes if he's best fit in a system like that of 'Pool, Leipzing, Salzburg, Ajax, etc. with this pace and dribbling abilities.

AJAX would be the perfect fit for him... but right now I think it is more just a matter of some poor luck and quite a few games facing the low-block. Also, as many, including you have pointed out... he is getting a ton of attention from opposing Ds. Can't really recall a single creative pass he has received from any of his teammates in quite a while. Again, he needs to make his own luck like he was doing for 25 minutes before he got pulled... but it would be nice to get some service in the box during his runs more often.

Honestly, I don't think Lamp is setting this team up the best he can given the talents he has.

With the likes of Kante, Kovacic, and Jorginho behind Pulisic...you have plenty of defensive midfield plays to allow CP to be the offensive spark.

Numerous times, they have failed to break down opposing defenses that decided to park the bus. What has been missing is the creative midfield minds that someone like CP can bring.

Lamp should really consider playing Pulisic in Mount's role as the CAM against bottom half teams when you know they will be packing it in. It's at least worth a try or two. You can put Mount back in the middle against the top 6 teams when you know you will need a bit more work in the midfield.

I am not a big fan of Ozil, but having a guy like that in Chelsea's midfield would hugely benefit Pulisic's game.

    Happy new year cp fans!

Kind of enjoyed watching Chelsea give up the goal after pulling cp. Nice job Lamps!

That game just blew off once CP is subbed.

It was the signal for Brighton to attack, now that they don't have to worry about the most offensive threat from Chelsea.

Mistakenly mixed in Portugal as World Cup Champs.....They've won the Euro Cup in 2016 and has done much better than the British in that competition.

France has around the same amount of people as England...Spain and Italy have actually less people than England.

Russia has 140M compare to England's 65M and that hasn't made them any better than the British.

    England doesn't have a population of 65m.
    It's about 56m
Which is more than Spain and less than France and Italy.

Can we drop the discussion of England’s population and get back on topic, which is how overrated Mount is?

Majority of English players are overrated. Wonder why English players rarely succeeded at top clubs around the world (outside of England)?

    Last post on population.

But I think you're right...Most website are counting "U.K" instead of just "England"...So my mistake...

So England probably do have around 56M, not counting Scotland and others.....which still puts them ahead of Spain with 46M and other better-performing European nation like Belgium, Portugal, Netherlands.

Still don't think it's a valid excuse for not winning a major trophy since 1966
