Yep, he looked ok, although ManU was on cruise control by then. Still, better to be part of the "solution" than the problem.

I'm not convinced Manquillo is any better, but whatever.

Looks like Bruce agrees with me and realizes Manquillo is not it.

He's just rotating players in the busy holiday season.

The Spaniard has played six full games in a row. I think his sorry display against United has started the rotation.

I'm glad to see Yedlin going with the natural. His last hairdo arrangement was awful, truly.

Newcastle sucks. I couldn't begin to explain why, but they have zero command of the ball. No movement, no combination play. Completely free of any ideas of how to circulate the ball, create space, create chances. No central presence, no rhythm. Nothing at all. Just flat for 90 minutes.

to spice up activity in this thread, we should have a vote on his hairstyles.

Hardly noticed him. He had a near-goal in the first half, taking a good touch in a crowded box and hit a solid shot that went off the very inside of the post and bounced across goal to Andy Carroll who put it in the net from an offside position. Other than that, it seemed that every time he DID manage to get the ball in a decent position, there were no teammates anywhere helpful, usually too far away, not running upfield or into space, or (seemingly) running away from the ball as fast as they could so as to avoid the threat of maintaining any possession and creating any chances for themselves (what a disaster that would be!).

I will not be watching any more Newcastle games this season. Terrible frustrating crap to waste 2 hours on.

Agreed. They were very static and generated their best chances from playing long balls and crosses to Andy Carroll (how is that still a thing at the end of 2019?).

On the plus side, I thought Yedlin was decent. I thought he mostly did his job defensively, and most of the dangerous Everton attacks came down the opposite side from the Walcott and Richarlison. I did think he was a bit tentative going forward. He'd either be a bit late in making the run into the space on the flank, or when he did get out there in space, he often just pull up and play the ball square to a CM. Not that it's good to force things going forward when it's not on, but he certainly fit the overall pattern of the team of not having that extra bit of creativity and guile needed to carve out good chances.

He's not. Neither is exceptional, but on both sides of the ball I think DY adds just a bit more. Couldn't hold on today, but DY added a bit in attack and NUFC were unlucky/poor finishers on a couple of chances.

Yedlin is not a game changer, unfortunately, but he tends to circulate the ball cleanly - can penetrate now again on the dribble and did not get caught out too much today.

Missed a very decent chance to do something magical when he got sprung down the left seam late-ish in the game, but otherwise not much to write home about.

Bruce/NUFC have reverted to Bruce ball - very route 1 or worked wide for crosses, but they don't have guys strong enough in the air upfront.

They have good enough wing play that at this point they need to go all-in on someone who is just going to get them a header goal or draw a PK as their most consistent attack is "push toward the middle - release wide. - cross into a crowd."

Rotation? It's Steve Bruce we're talking about.

He's throwing mud at a wall to see what'll stick.

Did you really expect anything else? Seriously?

Ever heard of "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"? ;))

Hard to believe he's 2 years older than Miazga. Somehow seems younger.
