9 months working under Ernie Stewart, GGG, GGG's douchebag brother, Cordiero, et al. HMM must not be a great gig? I believe that leaves just GGG and Kreis at the helm of NTs. All others are vacant. I can't imagine why?
I think that it was Ives who tweeted today that 13 YNT positions were vacant. That's absolutely insane. USSF is an atrocity. And if Berhalter had half a brain he would have pursued the LA Galaxy job instead of the USMNT job since the Galaxy job is really much better. But as someone who watched Berhalter for 5 years, it's not surprising at all that he lacks more than half a brain.
https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2019/1...to-hire-diego-alonso-as-first-head-coach/amp/ Reports now saying that Diego Alonso is the Inter Miami coach.
Sending a quick shout out to Truck Stop Jimmy's Cleveland Browns and all the jabronis who pointed to the Browns master plan and dedication to winning as an example of what we could expect in Crew land. Big day for those guys.
I'd have to look it up but it may partly be because the teams dont exist. Its complicated, but basically there is no permanent U17, U19 or U21 team. (I may be wrong on the 17's) Rather, they assemble a team for a specific competition which may be as much as 2 years away. For example, someone contacted me a few years ago to find out how to get his 20 year old son a shot at the U21s. I had to explain to him that the "U21" team that was being assembled was actually made up mostly of 18-19 year olds in.preparation for the U21 FIFA world cup which was 18 months or so away. Kids who were actual U21's at that moment would age out before the tournament, so theres no point bringing them in. You want a team of guys who have been playing together, under a particular coach, for at least a year, even 2. So 3 years before an age group world cup they hire a coach FOR THAT CYCLE, and his contract expires whenever the team gets eliminated or else wins the tourney or whatever Sigi was the 21's coach a few years ago and his contract -and the team - ended the day they got bounced. SO to make a long story incredibly longer, there may not be coaches for those age groups because we're too far out from a particular competition and said team does not exist
I've seen it all. Archer has become not only Fox News type propaganda for Black and Gold Boulevard, but for the USSF. Woof.....
I must say I was not impressed by the Brown's loss to the Bengals or encouraged in my hopes for the Crew's success in the upcoming season! An organization that allows a team like the Bengals to get their second win of the season does not build confidence in the organization! Here is hopeing the Crew's decision makers are doing a better job! So far I have hopes for the new Crew players we have brought in!
From a player perspective, my understanding is the Olympic Development Program (ODP) is the formal player ID process... https://www.osysa.com/odp/ Players 'bubble up' from state to region to national team. Coaches at each level move players up to the next level.
Both Browns and Bengals hired new coaches last year. Both looked in over their head. Browns are trying to fix issue by finding a new coach. Bengals are likely to keep coach who took team from 6-10 to 2-14. Browns are likely to win a playoff game before Bengals ever do.
Umm, I'll keep this short... ODP is a joke for player identification. Not really feeling like taking time to explain it to you - just take it as fact.
Let me just second this. ODP, whatever it might have once been - and in most cases all it amounted to was an opportunity for the USYSA state coach to make 100k a year - at this point it's less than nothing.
You don't need it when you have real professional teams with real scouting departments and real youth programs--and in some cases real USL teams. Sure the odd kid gets missed. But that happens in MLB, the NHL, and the NFL--and usually they eventually get found--like Cam Atkinson or Kurt Warner or Mike Piazza. It will happen less and less in MLS as the league improves.
The Bengals tanked. I mean, obviously they were poor, but benching Dalton midseason to give their backup QB a look (all losses) was vintage tank commander. They wanted that #1 pick. Losing AJ Green & their #1 OT pick for the season in camp didn't help. Getting those two back + Burrow + some smart drafting/FA signings to boost the OL, LB, & WR corps and Cincy could be decent next year. They have $55 million in cap space, though Green would take a chunk of that. Who Dey!
That is not true. The DA is not THE answer to identifying talent. I'm deep in the youth scene and I see many players/teams locally and nationally that are as good or better than those on DA squads. Our country is too big and the DA doesn't cast a big enough net. But as I said above, ODP is dead as far as talent ID goes. I will say that I am still a supporter of kids doing ODP because the more opportunities we can provide for kids to have different experiences, playing with different players and under different coaches, the better the overall development will be top to bottom. It's actually a pretty cheap additional training opportunity. But the talent level is pretty low.
Someone over on Reddit is winning the Offseason Above and Beyond Award by creating and maintaining a comprehensive in/out transfer tracker for all clubs: https://www.reddit.com/r/MLS/commen..._tracker/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app
Transfermarkt is finally putting more work into US Soccer and has a pretty good list as well! https://www.transfermarkt.us/major-league-soccer/transfers/wettbewerb/MLS1
Dead on. Its hard to be excited about Stefanski the day after his offense got its ass handed to it but McDaniel has disaster written all over him. Football coaching is the only profession where your interviee pitch is " well, I really sucked at my last job but now I know what not to do" and not get laughed out of the room.
