While I'm not negative on him I'd say, for his club, not cementing himself in a particular role is an issue, or potential issue if it's not resolved soon. It's fine if the club has a thin squad and he can fill lots of roles, but it limits his ability to grow, and if the club starts adding "specialists" in positions he fills he may find less and less time on the pitch. For country, he hasn't been so great lately.

Wes himself said over the summer/ late last season he wanted to nail down one position and not be a jack of all trades. He knows he needs that to grow.

He's still a starter and he's only 21. His club is pretty big by Bundesliga standards. Sucks that he can't simply be a midfielder but it says a lot that the manager depends on him to help fill in other spots.

Eye of the beerholder. Not sure which game but there's been more crappers than good games with the USMNT since Nepotism 2022 started and everyone looks bad chasing balls.

Watched the all touch. Not perfect but quite beast like. Skill at the 10 minute mark was impressive. Couple boneheaded passes in 12th minute. Impressive in the air. Could have done better on goal #2. This is a midfielder playing center back, an absolutely key position where you don’t just put anyone. He impresses me a lot, and has for a few years now. I still think the sky’s the limit

That is very true, and a source of worry because Jacks o' all-trades tend to be replaced when a club finds a fixed formation that works.

i don’t like that he hasn’t tightened up his mental game and eliminated some of defensive lapses

That's a good game. May be not by Schalke standards, but we don't have a CB that makes less mistakes.

Neither does Schalke. Including Wes, because he ain't a CB.

Is he playing LCB in a 3?

Ladies and Gentlemen we have our LB! (not sure if that's where he is or where he just popped up. I just came in off the roof.)

Wes with a suicide-header. Looks to be hurt.

stretchered off. Looks not good. Guessing it a shoulder/collar-bone thing by how he was laying, but just a guess.

Ugh...McKennie with a really nasty fall after jumping to challenge a header. He might have dislocated his shoulder (if I had to guess). It looks like he's getting stretchered off.

That's either a separated shoulder or a broken collarbone, if I were guessing. Not good, at all.

Very unfortunate. This also makes Schalke's CB even more thin as Mckennie was filling in for the injured Sane and Stambouli. /have to think he'll be out the next two matches...after those next match isn't till Jan. 17th so he'll have time to heal.

Damnit. Better a shoulder than a knee I guess.

As a dude that’s had 12 dislocations and 3 surgeries, from plays like that, I know that face all too well from Weston. It’s not good. You could see his shoulder pop out on the landing. I cringed. I just hope it isn’t bad. Shoulders and dislocations are tricky. Once you’ve had one....you are so susceptible to more.

Weston done for a while. Sargent too. Dest out today. Weah Hurt for months. Adams who knows.

What a rash of injuries for the young players. Weston looked to have broken collarbone or dislocated shoulder.

Shalke crowd chanting his name as he was stretchered off. He’s a popular young man at that club.

back to the same situation ..... we need many players playing overseas because injuries are just a fact of life.

    Adams
    McKennie
    Sargent
    Dest
    Weah

sorry to see what happened to Weston - he will be back and it is great how the fan base was cheering for him .... but looked nasty - collar bone, dislocated shoulder elbow, wrist or some combination of them .... he had really elevated before he started to pivot in the air. Cringeworthy to watch it happen.
