Lampson if healthy should win the back up job which hopefully means we cut Kempin but we probably keep him since we still have 9 roster spots left
I'm happy to have Lampson back. Hes a sufficient backup keeper who can start whenever Rooms with Curacao or in the Open Cup, etc. I think the local connection is a big deal off the field. Hamilton I'm meh about. I think I personally would've brought back Romario over him but I'm mostly indifferent. I still think we should find someone better to be the 2nd choice striker. Either a promising young foreign striker maybe, or a veteran/journeyman type of guy in the league who's proven and can for sure contribute no less than a few goals a season.
Glad to have Lampson back. Local guy. 3 time MLS Humanitarian of the Year. And an adequate backup keeper. We have 3 GKs now so we should be set there. Hamilton is meh. Did not show much last year. I prefered Romario, though only slightly. Zardes & JJ seem like #9s to me but Hamilton seems more of a speed guy or better suited to 442. Bez clearly likes him. Too tired to do full update. Will do tomorrow. Still have plenty of roster room. And 1 1st and 3 2nd round picks in the draft.
I don't think signing Hamilton means we won't add another striker. Romario Williams or someone else who is more proven than Hamilton.
Lampson is an upgrade on Kempin. Looking through fan responses here about his return it's met with more adoration and praise than Gigi Buffon returning to Juventus.
Lampson and Kempin seem to occupy the same roster spot in my opinion. In my humble roster building opinion: GK1 = Stud GK2 = Reliable Veteran GK3 = Prospect You can argue how reliable Kempin really is but he's definitely not a prospect either. Healthy competition for the GK2 spot is welcome but what do you do with the loser? I wouldn't be surprised to see Kempin being loaned and another GK picked up in the draft as a long term project. I think 3 GKs is enough but there seems to be room based on TrueCrew's roster posts and financially makes sense if at least one of them are loaned out. And out of any position, GK might be the best chance to find a diamond in the SuperDraft rough (based only on the fact that GK seems to be a position America can manufacture).
Post Lampson & Hamilton signings. Using last year's salaries as a guide, Lampson seems like a vet min guy (possibly on Supplemental Roster), and Hamilton likely a Senior Roster player. Though the fact the Hamilton's option was declined means his salary could be lower than listed. 21/30 Roster spots filled. 16/20 Senior Roster spits filled, could be 18 if Cadden/Kempin are Senior. 2 Int spots open (Hamilton does not count). A. Rules & Regs (2019) Link: https://www.mlssoccer.com/league/official-rules/mls-roster-rules-and-regulations B. General Stuff: 1. Salary Cap = $4,240,000 (2019) A) On Budget: Only Senior Roster Spots count against the Cap B) Players on Season Ending Injury list also count vs. the Cap, though one replacement player may be off cap under certain circumstances. C) Up to 20 Senior Roster spots. 18 must be filled. Min budget charge is made if spots 19 & 20 are not filled. D) Max budget charge is $530,000. Allocation $$ and DP rules can reduce a player's budget charge below their listed salary number. E) Off-Budget: Supplemental (21-24) and Reserve (25-30) Rosters do not count towards the salary cap. II. Estimated Roster Compositions 1. Senior Roster: 16/18-20 Players: A) 20 Player max on Senior Roster, subject to Season Ending Injury List, Disabled List, and Loan exceptions. Well that's a relief. I hate dirty millionaires. Whatever that means. We could add that a) perrito means puppy, and that's not a great nickname IMO, and b) the guys first name is not Nahuel, its Christian
