Again-- there was no way Nixon would be convicted in the Senate just a few weeks before he resigned in the face of 92-8. It is far worse today, but I haven't given up yet. And he has broken so many laws into such flinders, that I don't see how he'll avoid indictment already; and the tax records aren't even out of the box yet...
Oh please. In today's environment, Nixon would have never resigned and would have had a long line of defenders claiming he did nothing wrong.
Probably the most fascinating part is that it simply wouldn't be possible in the 70s to construct an entirely fake reality like Trump/GOP do it today No Fox etc No social media No wingnut ecosphere So there is no way for Nixon to claim it was all really the work of 70s drug freaks trying to frame the president in league with the FBI
But he did. "The Great Silent Majority." "The President is not a crook." "If the President does it it can't be illegal." "We had to do it because the Democrats were doing it to us." "Its not myself I'm claiming executive privilege to protect, I'm doing it for future presidents." Trump's Greatest Hits are just covers and mashups of Nixon's; there's almost nothing that is new here. Even Fox-- ABC tried mightily to carry Nixon's water for him for a long long time. In fact what is new might be the absence of Uncle Walt, Chet, and David to tell it like it really is.
I listened to that as it was happening on the way to see my doctor. I thought it was terrible. Every question Swalwell asked made it sound like a show, like it was rehearsed. And every question he asked we already knew the answer to it. I actually rolled my eyes at a stop sign.
I thought they would bring several articles so that some of the Dems in riskier districts could say they voted against the articles. I suppose the response to that was to approve USMASCERA or what ever it is.
Strictly taking about Impeachment, sure. But when talking about the Drug War, for Nixon the hippies were right behind the nig...I mean, Blacks.
It could well have been a collaboration. I watched it and it did what it obviously intended to do , set the tone. "Asked and answered" It was very well done. Sorry you didn't get it.
I listened to it live, dude. I got it, but it sounded contrived. It sounded like Swalwell could have asked any possible question and the answer would have been the same. You don't know the Drug War kick off during the Nixon years? Seriously, it was extremely racist.
Any good lawyer will tell you that you don't ask a question you don't already know the answer to, so don't ask any questions to trip up the guy who you need clear and concise answers from. They're trying to make this as simple as possible for an American public that doesn't seem to really be paying much attention.
Amen! The way I feel like spitting when I see these ads and politicians saying meth heads are human beings and etc. Once it came home to all the income classes of white America, all of a sudden more humanity was called for.
Contrast this with Sondland, where it took a crowbar to pry out the answer that it would be Trump who would benefit the most by an investigation of the Bidens. But I guess he would have been considered a "hostile" witness. Considering how outraged and offended he was when he was accused of not being "forthright."
I believe one of the resident BS lawyers said that you never ask in a deposition a question you do not already know the answer to (I paraphrase). In my opinion this was a fairly effective way to get all these 'questions and answers' into the official records. EDIT: I see KensingtonSC beat me to it!
Better than rolling the stop sign. That can get you a ticket! I liked that Swalwell did it, as it completely stated the, to this date, unrefuted claims made against Trump. I agree it sounded canned and "rehearsed," but it was succinct and made sense. And, this.
It was supposed to be staged, OTT and obvious. To show that Trumps crimes were OTT and obvious. It laid it out in a simple way for people to see what trump was facing. Me, I'd have tolled a bell between each question.
Democrat Senators are doing the same with Horowitz in the Senate, while the GOP follows the same script as their House counterparts (scream, cloud, misrepresent)... Basically everything points out that Trump supporters in the FBI and his campaign engaged numerous times in illegal activities, while there's little if anything to link Democrats to any kind of behavior
