I've actually heard the conservatives in my office use the phrase "don't need no highfalutin' education". The religious nut was often fond of saying "don't need nothing but the bible".

Pretty sure their comments are directed at the warehouse guys who pass through. Stay ignorant, learn nothing. Just live in fear of the world around you.

Well, they can't very well sell wealth for almost 200 million people. They're not selling poverty anyway, IMO. They're selling faith, privilege and nationalism.

Poverty (and wealth) is kind of based on what you have v. what others have, once you can feed your family and see to their other needs. It's listed as a set income line in most states, but IMO that's not necessarily how a poor conservative would look at it. He's been poor all his life, xtended family and ancestors have been poor their whole lives, too. He knows who he is- he can't forget who he is. I mean, been White all his life, extended family and ancestors have been White all their lives, and somehow nobody's managed to turn that advantage into even financial solvency, let alone wealth. The GOP cain't make these folk wealthy. Cain't no damn body make 'em wealthy. What the GOP can do is increase their privilege, which is probably as good as money to someone who'll never have money anyway, because at least someone will be below them.

Yeah, it's ignorance, but maybe not like you're thinking.

Their world isn't really a world. It's a small part of the world, and it's full of folks like themselves.
