This is a thread for news, player updates and any other sections that don't fit in any category, example youth players in college level or academy levels abroad, players that have salvadoran blood but are either playing at a low level of football or haven't aligned to any players, news about INDES, updates on stadiums etc.

Players playing abroad with Salvadoran blood, or playing at a lower level that don't qualify for the Salvadoran abroad thread.

    MLS
    Eriq Zavaleta - Toronto FC

    Costa Rica
Juan Arellano (Salvadoran mother and Mexican Father) - Cartagines
Christian Martinez (Salvadoran father/ Costa Rican Mother) - Saprissa

    Nicaragua
    Nahun Matinez - Real Madriz

    Guatemala (2nd division)
    Jose Tobar - Asunción Mita

Agreed. The ethnic clubs in Australia have done it right and capitalised. The Croatian, Italian, Greek and Serbian-backed clubs have offered pathways for players to Europe and vice versa, thanks to their blood relations with the motherland.

Salvadoranska FC should be an excellent opportunity for sending Salvadorans to Sweden and vice versa.

Update on Salvadoran-Australian midfielder Eduardo Castaneda (born 2000 and from Hobart). He has joined A-League team Brisbane Roar’s youth squad.

Still too early to get excited about him (remember Gian Tapia was a Melbourne Victory junior at one point), but this is very positive news. For those of you who are not yet aware of him, he was a part of Australia’s U-17 squad; making him the first Salvadoran to represent Australia.

Hopefully he can be the first Salvadoran-Australian to play in the A-League. He’d be the second to play in Australia’s top division, after Oscar Zamora who played for Canberra Cosmos in the 1997/98 NSL season.

PS. I’m pleasantly surprised to know there are Salvadorans in Hobart, let alone Tasmania haha (beautiful state, if you haven’t visited yet).

Update on Eduardo Castaneda, former Australia U-17 and Brisbane Roar junior, who currently plays for Magpies Crusaders in Australia’s second division.

Last night, he started and played 90 minutes in Crusaders’ first FFA Cup match and won 2-1. FFA Cup is Australia’s version of Copa del Rey and FA Cup etc. He is the second Salvadoran-Australian to play in this national tournament after Gian Tapia.

Castaneda is at the second top right corner. Interested to see who Crusaders plays next.

The one positive in our football since I have been following it has been Joel Aguilar Chicas. He has been very professional despite all the abuse thrown his way. He has ref’d at the highest levels of the game and not been overtaken by the occasion. He has made mistakes from time to time but given how difficult it is to be a referee in El Salvador with all the negativity thrown your way I really admire the work he does. I honestly don’t know how anyone could handle the pressure of refereeing important games in which fans start throwing things at you it really is impressive they stick with the job

Here is a video of him talking to some of Sonsonate’s players about keeping the game clean. It really can affect their livelihood if they sustain a major injury given there are a lot of teams that will just cut injured players rather than pay their medical expenses. The league does need a players union to fix some things but mainly the dirty play needs to be pushed against no good comes of it and I am glad he goes around talking to the players about expectations

Eduardo Castaneda’s started and played the entire match in Magpies Crusaders’ 4-0 loss in the FFA Cup; in which the team is now eliminated.

I attended tonight’s match, and tried calling out his name several times but he didn’t hear me :(

2020 update on random Salvadoran expats from the top of my head who are still active. Some play pro, others semi-pro and college.

The top 5 are all professionals and should still be looked at IMO.

Eriq Zavaleta - Toronto FC (MLS)
    Joshua Perez - LAFC (MLS)
Gilbert Fuentes - San Jose Earthquakes (MLS)
Alex Roldan - Seattle Sounders (MLS)
Amando Moreno - New Mexico United (USL)
Christian Martinez - AD San Carlos (Costa Rica)

Enrico Hernández - Vitesse U-19 (Netherlands)
Adonis Amaya - San Diego 1904 (NISA)
Nelson Blanco - San Diego 1904 (NISA)
Junior Burgos - New York Cosmos (NISA)
    Tomas Romero - Georgetown University
    Jorey García - Hofstra University
Óscar Sorto - Cal FC (UPSL)

Junior Flores has disappeared without a trace :(
