I thought based on his prior showings he showed he's good enough to play there for us. He's not going to give us what Arias can on his best day but I thought he did a good enough job that he looked comfortable and a lot better then his previous showings where he looked like a dear in headlights. It was a while ago but I remember thinking he defended fairly well and looked serviceable at least going forward, especially on the side where it was James and Cuadrado likely attacking a lot so he didn't need to do a ton of overlapping rather did his job well being a stay at home fullback for the most part. I'd still start Arias over him but after the COPA he showed he's an option for us in that spot. Overall I thought he was a serviceable option for a less attacking mainly defensive RB and about as much as we could expect from a guy who's essentially a CB/RB hybrid. Arias gives us a lot more and if we want to reach the best possible team we'll need Arias, but none of this is Medina's fault, he tactically fit CQ and performed pretty well based on his limits, I'm happy with him as an option but if CQ wants the best possible Colombia Arias is definitely involved.
that's fair - againt Peru in the last friendly before the CA, Medina did have a beautiful assist for one of those goals and he did play against Panama - but prior to those two games, he didn't feature in any of friendlies after the 2018 WC. i guess he's an option, but i'm at the point if i see Medina starting next CA/WCQ, i'm likely to order a shot of patron to ease the nerves LOL
Won the penalty as well by harassing the defenders and winning the ball back and getting fouled. He had a good overall display, the guy ********en busted his ass being everywhere and causing the other team a lot of problems, I will say he was a bit wild with a few shots on half chances though. His numbers are next level insanity in terms of expected goals with Atalanta, likely due to him being a sub constantly, not getting massive minutes and playing for an all out attacking team but not a lot of players can put that up no matter the system. He has 8 goals in 524 minutes with an expected return of 1.02 G and 0.26 A per 90/ that's highest in the league other then Milik who's played 430 minutes and Muriel is currently 3rd in the league having played half the minutes of Immobile and Lukaku. He needs to keep being given a chance to start for us, because he's not just a goal scorer but a work horse harassing and moving off the ball while still maintaining huge offensive numbers. I really want to see Muriel/Duvan playing with Quintero/James for a long sample size, I think when we get that we're going to be very good pressing and our attack should be really good as well. I know CQ gets shit for being defensive which is fair, but if he implements a high press with our players we are going to be attacking beasts because we're going to be lethal going forward while also being able to regain possession everywhere on the field.
I really do hope to see those four healthy and playing together this cycle. But I am very pessimistic that we will see it any time soon.
That’s a big ask given injuries and timing. I would like to see it too....I know what many of us here will be asking from Santa next month LOL
⚡ ¡Qué CRACK! ⚡Luis Muriel ha sido una de las cartas fuertes del Atalanta 🙌🏻https://t.co/D2EHTi4wAH— MedioTiempo (@mediotiempo) December 7, 2019
Even tho it's not likely that he will catch up with Ciro (jesus 17 goals already?) it would be something if he could be the only player closet to the top goal scorer.
Atalanta pull off the group stage comeback of the century after losing their first 3 games. Muriel was a big part of it over the last couple games, he didn't score but he was a threat on the ball, created a few good chances and had a few chances as well. He pressed really well and Atalanta were unlucky having two really good chances to score after he and Gomez pressured Shaktar into bad turnovers. Really want to see if they'll finally pair Duvan and Muriel up top.
Glad they found a way. I had them in RIP mode but they did what they had to do even without Duvan. Hope they get a good match up in the second round but their inconsistent Defense will make them underdogs to pretty much any team they face unfortunately.
And they have been drawn with Valencia. One of the teams I think they are pretty even with so they have a good chance to make it to the Quarters. Let's see how it plays out.
Valencia is a really good draw for them, very good chance to advance if they're on their game, If they have everyone healthy should be fun.
Handanovic is the master of saving pens. Wasn't a terrible pen, wasn't great either pretty close to the corner but maybe at a poor height, good save and most goalies probably aren't saving that.
