TBH, with the Fed's missteps and alienation of Latin players, it's up in the air if *any* of our Latin prospects will ultimately choose the US...hell, Reyna is also eligible for other nation(s) probably too, right? Maybe Portugal via his dad/dad's family? If he were to defect it would be incredibly damning given his family status with us. This is a clear low period for US soccer and a clear high one for Mexico. We can be disappointed all we want, but can't blame the kid for choosing the best horse in his short window of time.

I don't think Reyna is going to defect.... but man o man... if he did? Well.... the train wreck would reach new levels of carnage.

There isn't a number microscopic enough to represent the chance that Reyna won't play for the U.S. It's even less than Pulisic.

Gio's father played for the country and he grew up here. There isn't a robust culture or population of Portugese in the States for him to identify more with that group. They are not a border country.

The program is in a poor state right now. But it still holds potential and most people's identification is unyielding. The concern nominal dual nationals are going to jump ship is reaching meth trip level paranoia at this point.

Its asinine to even entertain this speculation about G. Reyna and we are all dumber for it.

You haven't been to some areas of Boston, Mass coastal or Rhode Island coastal then.... I agree with the general point about not comparing with the influence of Mexican culture on dualies.

If I recall correctly, Efra was ostracized by the federation for missing curfew and having a « poor attitude » as a 13-14 year old. I’m sorry, but just because a kid missed curfew, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t call in the most talented player in the age group for multiple camps.

Okay hold the phone. The kid was a kid. He was staying in a hotel in a foreign city and missed curfew. Now you're the adult in charge of his welfare and safety. Gee do you think there should be consequences for that? He got mad and felt singled out. We asked him to participate in other camps and he has since turned us down. There's probably more to the story but let's not act like benching him for a game because he was screwing around when he shouldn't have been is great crime by the US coach.

They didn’t call him in for multiple camps immediately after. That, in my opinion, is too severe of a punishment.

Gio was not in the U19 squad today, leading to speculation that he may be called up to the pros for the Bundesliga match against Düsseldorf.

His father IS the original “Captain American” for the USMNT. Gio bleeds red, white and blue.

So does he need to actually play to move to the big boy Yanks Abroad or just being on the squad is enough?

Cool to see 3 yanks on game day roster in the Bundesliga. Not so common.
