So the utterly useless MLS Caribbean combine lives on. Talk about a place they could save some money. It's long been popular with league assistants - Hey, you wanna go spend 3 days in Jamaica Mon?- but it never yields anything. Now they used to say that players who showed promise would be invited to the regular MLS combine but since that's been shit canned I dont what the grand prize is here. In my memory only one player was ever invited up and he didn't get drafted. There were probably more, but that doesnt change what a colossal waste of time it is. Well, except for the guys who get an all expenses paid three days in Jamaica. Each CFU federation can send 3 kids. Most have never sent a single one. The problem is of course youth coaching, which is abysmal almost uniformly. They can come up with plenty of athletes, but they have to be at least 18 years old, which is way too late to take a raw, untutored, unskilled kid and turn him into a professional soccer player. Way, way too late. Been preaching this for years: if MLS wants Caribbean players they need to invest in an academy down there someplace. Start bringing in 12's, just like USSDA does. Send some decent coaches down, give the kids room and board and act like you're really interested in development. Which would cost time and money. They'd rather pay some assistant coaches bar bill for 3 days once a year.

I quite clearly was talking about the MLS Caribbean combine, not some random player who happens to be from the Caribbean, was under contract in France for years - making him ineligible for the combine as it is restricted to players who have never been so designated - and has been a Martinique international for most of the decade. Edit: Sadly the mod edited much of my response. I'm not normally anywhere near this polite to imbeciles.
You might want to watch who you call an imbecile and actually you know research what you talk abouts. Stones and glass houses. Jordy Delam WAS in the Caribbean Combine. That's WHERE HE WAS SCOUTED BY THE SOUNDERS! From: https://www.soundersfc.com/post/201...ey-delem-s-remarkable-road-martinique-seattle After following his mother’s wishes to keep playing, Delem went to a local Major League Soccer Caribbean combine where scouts from the league evaluated talent. It was a yearly event put on by the Caribbean Football Union, a week-long session consisting of training exercises and games. He was one of the four best players in his age group and caught the eye of S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson. Playing his preferred position of center back at the combine, Delem won the majority of his duels and was technically sound passing and building from the back. “His tactical ability was very keen for me,” Hendrickson said. “It was a no-brainer for me to try and get him here.”
