Report: FC Dallas and Bayern Munich sign talent development deal https://www.bigdsoccer.com/2018/2/1...as-bayern-munich-sign-talent-development-deal I find this to be a really interesting development, and worthy of its own thread. The "next Weston McKennie" won't go to Schalke ! Note that FCD has also had relationships with Atletico Paranaense of Brazil and Tigres of Mexico. Its no accident that MLS MVP David Ferreira came to the club on loan from Atletico Paranaense. In a report by the Sports Business Journal (note: this is a paid subscription link), the two sides have signed a comprehensive player development partnership, the first unaffiliated European and MLS clubs to do so. According to the report, the deal will be announced at some point this week as the club travels to Arizona for their last full week of preseason games before the CONCACAF Champions League. The deal will see the two clubs come together to exchange talent, allowing young players to work with coaches and scouts from both organizations in either country. Basically this is going to provide FCD what clubs like NYRB and NYCFC already have thru their European affiliations. So its not new from that respect. Still............................
I like it and have been expecting to see Darren Eales using his connections with the Spurs to pursue something similar for ATLUTD. Also, I'd expect to see the two clubs do business. We got Anton Walkes on loan from the Spurs this past year and I'd expect to see that sort of thing happen again in the future. In fact, the Spurs also plan to host NFL games in their new stadium. Since Arthur Blank owns the Falcons, I could even envision an agreement to have the Falcons play a game in London being discussed as part of a football/soccer partnership.
Doesn't Spurs already have some connection with San Jose? Maybe that's why it hasn't happened. San Jose Earthquakes Establish Strategic Partnership with Premier League's Tottenham Hotspur Football Club https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2010...rategic-partnership-premier-leagues-tottenham We'll have to see why this particular article say this relationship is going to be unique compared to previous arrangements between MLS and European clubs. This particular FCD/Bayern partnership seems to be all about youth and talent development.
Dude, Arthur just footed the bill on a multi-billion dollar stadium......the Falcons are only guaranteed 10 homes games a season (2 pre-season, and 8 regular season). I don't see him giving up a home game anytime in the near future..... Love your enthusiasm though!
The NFL is trying to make sure that all the teams play at least one game in England. Atlanta did play one over there in 2014 and they gave up a home game so they won't have to do that again for a while. These five teams had not played a game in London at all as of the end of 2017: Houston, Seattle, Carolina, Green Bay, Philadelphia, and Tennessee. Houston and Seattle had played outside of the U.S.: Houston in Mexico City and Seattle in China. In 2018 Seattle, Tennessee, and Philadelphia are all scheduled to play in London. That will leave Houston, Carolina, and Green Bay that will probably have to go play one in 2019. Giving up a home game is a different issue. There is some talk that all the teams will have to eventually give up a home game but the league has not made that a priority.
I expect that to cause much more outrage than making every team play in London. Can you see Green Bay or Seattle being happy giving up a home game?
Teams that play in London get revenue from those games. They also get a national broadcast. Plus, who's to say it would be a home game? It could just as easily replace a road game vs. a team that is struggling at the gate. The NFL held 4 games in London in 2017. Going forward, 2 games per year will be held at the Spurs new stadium as it was specifically designed to accommodate NFL football. Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz (Arthur Blank's venue) will host the MLS all-star game this year, yet the opponent hasn't been announced. Any chance the Spurs agree to come to Atlanta to play the MSL all-stars in return for a Falcons game in their stadium in the future? Lots of possibilities given the executive connection between the two clubs and the fact that Arthur Blank owns the Falcons, Atlanta United, and the venue that they share.

What can we expect from this player development partnership between @FCDallas and @FCBayernUS? A glimpse at some of the conversations already taking placehttps://t.co/DBxgLDQkGu— Carter Baum (@CarterBaum) February 13, 2018
Is Julian Green still contracted to Bayern? There's a possibility for him playing for FC Dallas if so...

An interesting video from Bayern Munich regarding their partnership with FCD. Worth a watch. When the partnership was announced I was cynical about whether Bayern would really take it seriously. So far, I've been proven wrong. [BTW...………….Chris Richards made the 18 for Bayern Munich II today for the first time. There's a transfer clause as part of his loan deal, so hopefully we'll learn that its been triggered.] Take an inside look at our partnership with @FCDallas and our mission of global ⚽️ advancement! 🇩🇪🇺🇸➡️https://t.co/EjuGysgJoE#MiaSanMia #FCBayern pic.twitter.com/bMcFSYmkh4— 🇺🇸 FC Bayern US 🇨🇦 (@FCBayernUS) November 30, 2018
This looks like the first transfer from FCD to Bayern is about to go down...……… Sources: Bayern finalizing transfer for USMNT prospect Chris Richards https://t.co/z214qfZLgK— 3rd Degree (@3rdDegreeNet) December 6, 2018
what kind of cash payment should I look for in order to discourage my belief that bayern is involved in opportunistic cheapery/thievery here.
Well...……………...this is a player that was only at the FCD academy for one year. He wasn't even eligible to play for them last season in MLS. I would say that if FCD got 1 million for him, they'd be thrilled. The whole reason that FCD set up this type of agreement with Bayern was to avoid the situation they had with Weston McKennie. They invested a lot in McKennie, and he went to Europe for nothing. And a lot of FCD's kids have Euro ambitions. So what FCD is trying to set up here is an avenue to Europe by which they can still get paid. So having this first kid successfully move thru this model to Europe is really important for them. See Taylor Booth. He's the RSL academy product that just left for Bayern Munich as well. RSL is gonna get nothing for him, while FCD is gonna get paid for Richards. [RSL had three kids move for nothing. Booth to Bayern. Soto to Hannover. Ledesma is reportedly about to sign for PSV. All US youth internationals. They were able to sign a fourth, the goalkeeper David Ochoa, to a homegrown contract. He had also explored Euro options.] The next FCD kid that's rumored to go on loan to Bayern is young #10 Thomas Roberts.
is that comparable to what they would pay for a similarly groomed euro/south american prospect? if not, i’ll still be muttering under my breath (even tho all usa dev economic models can’t seem to do any better).
Looks like the first tangible result of this partnership is done. Source: U.S. U-20 CB Chris Richards' move from FC Dallas to Bayern Munich is complete. FCD will receive a low seven-figure fee w/ sell-on clause for the Alabama native, who spent second half of 2018 on loan to Bayern. @SoccerByIves reported last month move was being finalized.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) January 5, 2019
This first move is officially done. Great piece of business by FC Dallas. Really highlights the revenue stream that clubs lose out on when their youth products leave on frees. RSL just lost Soto to Hannover, Booth to Bayern, and Ledesma to PSV. They get squadoosh in return. Galaxy just lost Mendez to Freiburg and presumably Llanez to Wolfsburg. They get squadoosh in return. FCD can provide a pathway to Europe thru Bayern Munich allowing them to get paid........................ Official: Bayern have completed the permanent signing of Chris Richards from FC Dallas on a 4.5 year contract until June 2023. pic.twitter.com/xw6mgnxJKe— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) January 24, 2019 More details: As @SoccerByIves previously reported, sources tell me Dallas will receive $1.25 million up front for Richards. Fee could rise to just north of $5m if Richards hits various performance incentives. Dallas will receive a percentage of any fee if he’s sold by Bayern. https://t.co/MXgvshMY3O— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) January 24, 2019
Don Garber mentioned in December that MLS needed to become a selling league. FCD has taken another leap into the worldwide transfer market and here’s why it is good for the growth of the American game: https://t.co/DuuuTq0yLC— Carter Baum (@CarterBaum) January 24, 2019
From the article: “I hope this is the new normal course of business for MLS, where players who have yet to appear in the first team are sold. I think that will really contribute to an explosive growth of the league,” FCD President Dan Hunt said this week referencing the regular practice that takes place among the top leagues in Europe and South America. “It's fabulous for MLS and it becomes a very healthy business from a soccer standpoint when teams are trying to move around Academy products for seven digits. If you develop a player in the first team, you're talking about something in the eight-digit range, that's fabulous for MLS.” Selling some of your top prospects might seem counter-productive to the future of a club, but it’s also what keeps the ever-spinning cycle moving. The more you can develop and sell, the more you can take the proceeds and invest on the overall player budget and on your investment to continue developing the next young star. It’s a never-ending circle of production and re-investment. By MLS rule, not a dollar of any transfer can be pulled out for profit, it all goes back into the club. Significant point to be known for your MLS Club's finances.
Man, FCD signed their 26th homegrown player yesterday. US U17 Ricardo Pepi. It's OFFICIAL! @Ricardo_Pepi9 is the first player to sign with FC Dallas from @USLLeagueOne development pathway. #DTID 📰: https://t.co/QrwH7zY6TH pic.twitter.com/5M9Bo9vQW4— FC Dallas (@FCDallas) June 21, 2019 What they're trying to do is remarkable. They've talked the talk for a long time, but they're really walking the walk. Right now they have 11 homegrown players on their first team roster. That's more than a third of their first team. Jesse Gonzalez (USMNT) Reggie Cannon (USMNT) Paxton Pomykal (US U20) Edwin Cerrillo (US U20) Brandon Servania (US U20) Moises Hernandez (Guatemala MNT; former US U20) Dante Sealy (US U16) Thomas Roberts (US U19) Ricardo Pepi (US U17) Jesus Ferreira (US U17-not eligible yet, but called up anyway) Bryan Reynolds (US U19) Let's just take a minute to realize that the average age of the 30 players under first team contract at FCD...…………...is 23. Their USL team is doing great with loads of young talent. Their U19 and U17 teams are chock full of youth internationals, and are contenders to win titles in both divisions. They have a bunch of prospects in the NCAAs to also sign. Fingers crossed that the fans are patient with this project.
Five FCD youngsters have been at the Bayern academy this winter. Thomas Roberts seems to still be there, so maybe there's a Chris Richards style loan in the works there. .@FCDallas 🤝 @FCBayernUS Developing Young Talent#MiaSanMia | #DTID pic.twitter.com/2hncQbX7c4— FC Dallas (@FCDallas) December 6, 2019
