I agree, why drop the name and heritage/legacy? The Tulsa Roughnecks was always a cool name and I liked their logo. I hope they go back to it eventually.
Maybe web traffic and the word Roughnecks getting routed to another team or site as of lately. The XFL entered (reentered) the U.S. sporting landscape just recently and us in Houston got the moniker of Roughnecks for our team. Which works for any city with oil and gas industry connection but really guys, that has been Tulsa's go to moniker for their pro soccer team since the 70's into the 80's and up till now with their current team.
Not sure this serves the ambition. They are in trouble. Average attendance declining every year since it started in 2015. Maybe the millennials in the focus groups didn't like a name that bespeaks global warming.
But the XFL will only last, what, maybe 2 seasons? Any Tulsa soccer team should be the Roughnecks, I say.
Well.. A certain poster on this website created a tribute page to the NASL team on tulsaroughnecks.com. So this does clean-up that confusion. But I suspect the primary driver is to freshen up the brand and try to regenerate interest in the team that, as Mateofelipe pointed out, has been flagging over the years.

I just saw this on FOX. I didn’t realize they would be using this name. Still the soccer team had it first.
