It actually is. While there are certainly people on both ends of the spectrum with regards to the onset of dementia, dementia is, primarily, an age related illness. The older a person gets, the more likely they are to get dementia to the point that it is virtually guaranteed they'll get it. At this point, the only question is whether you live long enough to get it.
Even with the risk of infuriating American Brumie and getting a 10,000 word essay reply on why I am wrong and stupid, yes there should be a year limit or age limit on S.C. judges.
Yes. The Supreme Court should not be a lifetime appointment. I would prefer if there were a 20 or so year limit on SC appointments.
I see nothing wrong with that. When I enlisted and then went NSW I had to each time. For NSW we were also observed by mental health practitioners. Why not the most powerful position on earth...next to Jesus of course.
And on that note it would be great if they could include a cognitive impairment test for the president, but you just know the process would get relentlessly politicized and questioned.
No doubt. That’s where we are as a country. If only everyone could load a bowl pour a dram and put on some Coleman Hawkins.
That's why I said "isn't necessarily," implying that while it may be a predictor, it isn't in all cases. This discussion just veers perilously close to ageism. Sure, let's check candidates' cognitive capacity, increasingly so as they get older, but assuming older people are just inherently going to have decreased cognitive functioning is incredibly unfair.
Yes. Radical doesn’t necessarily have to broadly fit the traditional right/left labels. Yang is a rather unique radical.
Judging the posts surrounding my posts, most of you know nothing about my politics other than I’m not like most of you.
Man, I'd love to read the reasoning behind this. (That was not said sarcastically, BTW. I really would like to read it.)
Being married to someone who spent many years as one of those salespeople, I can assure you that they're not raking it in well enough to be making major purchases on a big Bloomberg buy.
I don't think liberal/conservative/moderate is the main dividing line right now. The first divide is smart vs. stupid. There are a huge number of people who are oblivious to facts about climate change, foreign interference in our elections, vaccinations, etc. etc. I refer to these people as "stupid." These people pick a side and don't do any deep analysis. Among the "smart" you can divide them into liberal, conservative, etc. For example on climate change, there are the stupid folk who deny that there is any problem, and then the smarter folk who may differ in their ideas for how to combat the problem but at least acknowledge that it exists.
My re-education camps would be the most fun...and inclusive! ...assuming Chairman Grimes gives me his endorsement
Biden burning the most known Know-Nothing... The world is laughing at President Trump. They see him for what he really is: dangerously incompetent and incapable of world leadership. We cannot give him four more years as commander in chief. pic.twitter.com/IR8K2k54YQ— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) December 5, 2019
John Kerry endorsed Biden. That (and abolishing the electoral college) would require amendments. Needing three-quarters of the states makes amendments really hard. There hasn't been an amendment ratified since 1992. People who are old enough to vote and are trying to start careers haven't been alive when there was an amendment. Clarence Thomas could break the record for longest tenured justice. He would break the record on May 20, 2028. He was born on June 23, 1948, so he would break the record at age 79. Out of 114 justices, Thomas has the 20th most days, Ginsburg has the 26th most, and Breyer has the 28th most. Then it's a big gap to Roberts with the 66th most days. The longest time in Supreme Court history without a justice changing was while Clinton and the second Bush were president, so the three justices appointed before that gap have a much longer tenure than the other six. Among the 17 chief justices, Roberts has the 10th most days.
