I’d rather DC United not go more bankrupt than they already are. This market already couldn’t sustain two other women’s franchises (OK-one franchise, twice). Let some other entity take the loss. Thx, Jay!
RFK was a money pit, but it wasn't the market that failed. It was the leagues that failed. Likewise (and yes, I know he's dead), ******** Dan Borislow. He moved that team after the Freedom were basically a farmburning team that kept professional women's soccer alive when leagues died. The Hendricks did a lot for soccer in this region and especially women's soccer. From that standpoint, it's sad to see the Spirit leave the Soccerplex, but I will never miss going out there. I don't want to see the team in Loudoun either. The team should be in DC. At this point, I'd almost want the Spirit owners brought into United's group. There needs to be more in this ownership group.
Super Excited!!! Just got a Black Friday offer for tickets to the opener AND ALL THREE FRIENDLIES! (and a beanie) I cant wait to get on that
Huh? Why would DC use eminent domain to take land from a shining new development that it had just approved in Buzzard's Point?
Just a tongue-in-cheek reference to the fact that municipalities in the past had fewer qualms about requisitioning land for the public good. You could certainly make the case that the lack of a parking structure on Buzzard Point is bad for business development, including two stadiums, and that the city could run such a structure at a handsome profit, given they're adding vertical living space and retail, building out the waterfront and drastically reducing public parking options with that plan. I also wonder where all those kids are going to school, stuff like that. It's probably just me.
I was in the area today and took 995 photos. I almost went back when I realized I was that close to 1000. I hadn't paid much attention to how quickly the hotel is popping up north of the stadium. It's nice to be able to really see how the arches are going to look on the bridge. Peninsula 88 has had crews working on interior stuff for months. They're even putting in some landscaping around sidewalks now. I did see one of my friends, but I just missed taking a photo. It surprised me being in the Akridge lot south of the stadium and dipping into a storm drain.
I only demand that the first picture show me a gutter downspout, hopefully properly painted! But really, if you can't even take 1,000 pictures, why even bother to post any
Screw the hotel . . . . . . do any of those 995 photos show Safe Standing being installed in the North (Chico) End?
There were a number of people who were adamant that it was going to happen. I know its warm right now, but weather this time of year is usually worse and never predictable. I was surprised to not see it going in at the beginning of last month when we were there for the kids clinic. They had ripped out the field level seating in front of the Heinekin Club so that's presumably getting an upgrade.
Will we ever get a roof (that is not just the frame of a roof)? I heard that Luka Modric likes roofs.
Since Modric isn't coming, no roof for you! When I first selected westside seats at AF, I picked Row 14 more on a whim than anything. As it turned out, I'm in the first row that is covered when it rains, who knew?
I found the holding breath emoji ... Based on cost, I don't think its ever happening. Everyone other than Roche has gotten over it and moved on. We sit in the first row of the section so we never had much expectation of benefit from a roof unless the rain was light and there wasn't much breeze, but I can get where someone expected to sit under cover is pissed that its not there.
I sat on the West side during the USA vs Cuba League of Nations match. I did like the view from over there, but the lack of a roof over the lower rows does suck.
Second row from the top on the East Side. We don’t get the rain but we do get any cold wind from the northwest.
Wait, I've only attended the inaugural match at Audi Field. I don't see the "Hype Guy" anywhere in this video. Is he not around anymore?
I'd respond with some smart assed comment, but I'm one of the local angry techno-Luddites who can't access this link. So, someone tell me: Is this just another "Modric signs" pysch-out (dickhead, whoever did that ) or is this actual photo-evidence of safe-standing being installed?
