Apparently there's a good reason for me to be surprised about Gressel. @Hedbal I think your info is wrong. Gressel is listed on the MLS website as having had his contract option exercised.

Why? He's made no lasting impression on me, so I'm not speaking from what I've seen from him by any means; but by the numbers, he looks pretty underwhelming.

I just checked Atlanta's website, and Gressel had his contract option exercised.

Correct. My mistake. It made no sense, and I should have looked more carefully.

I like his (apparent) quickness of thought - I also share the same opinion of him that his brother has - that he's the more well-rounded soccer player of the two.

I agree he's been underwhelming for Seattle - but so was his brother for the first two years (and unfortunately continues to be for the US for some reason).

    I liked him in college.

Of those: Agudelo and Roldan are enigma. Agudelo can be good, he just isn't consistent. Meram hit his sell-by date last year, he's yogurt by now.

Remember when Zelalem was the next big thing? KC just declined his option. Guess that knee injury really robbed him of what made him special.

I like Gressel's game. He's a good midfielder, nice final pass in an up tempo system of Martinos, less effective in the more ticky-tac system of de Boer.

I was super impressed with him, until I realized their were Roldan brothers playing at the same time!

Meram is a better deck chair.

I would take a flyer on Agudelo or Roldan. Cut them if they don't preform.

Right now according to MLS website DC United has no roster, lol.

If Meram's a deck chair, he's a good quality one. I'd consider him and Agudelo worthwhile additions. These two and a DP 10 would round out the offense nicely

Meram and Agudelo? The quality of the trolling in this forum has really fallen.

Agreed. My definition of deck chair is not Justin Meram unless you want a deck chair with ripped upholstery that gives you crabs.

Well, I'm certainly not going to get crabs from a wild sexual escapade.

DC and Houston are the only teams that haven't submitted their lists and Houston was just involved in a big trade.

I'd like to see United take a flyer on any of Alexander Katai, Anthony Jackson-Hamel, or Derek Etienne Jr. I'd certainly welcome Kofi Opare home and backup central defender is a position of need.

But given the team's DNA over the Olsen era, I'd expect them to grab someone like Benny Feilhaber or Sasha Klejstan. They all fit the mold of the grizzled veteran hoping to get one or two more years of rebirth before their body falls off a cliff a la Chris Rolfe.

And of course because this team ALWAYS signs the player I loathe most, I am steeling myself for Hamid's loan to be ended and Luis Robles to be signed.

Submitting a roster with Rooney in the departure column is like a Facebook break up.

    takes longer than it should

That would be just like us, wouldn't it. Either would be a horrible choice - unless they worked for free concessions and an apartment in Ben's basement.
Sadly, this is the second thought I had when I saw he would not be staying in Jersey. The first thought caused a smile at his misfortune. What an ass.
