I've noticed over the years that US youth teams play poorly in their first game in Euro competitions. Jet lag? They learn their teammates as the games go on? Too bad the second game this time is a local thrown together bunch and not another real test.
There's a team that would have served both criteria - Las Palmas. Don't know why they wouldn't have been given a call. Even their reserves would have been a better option. It's an int'l friendly tournament, but the most important thing is learning from it.
Good news everyone. Our best prospects can at least hang with a random selection of dudes from the Canary Islands. They didn’t dominate us. Progress.
0-0 HT Half was almost entirely played by the US in the attacking half, but with few shots to show for it. Saucedo hit the cross bar (on what might have been a mishit cross) and a post with another. Cappis had a shot running onto a cross from Robinson but it was saved.
Cappis has such a great field vision. On another play. Salsedo scored And a minute later, Lenon with the second score.
Canaria is out of gas. Robinson flies past guy. Mendez volley on doorstep saved. Then another chance. Aaronson blocked by defender who doesn’t know much about it.
