Amaya played in the last sub 20 two years ahead of his age group. And it showed. He wasn't exactly one of the best for the sub 20, he's nowhere near ready for the competition he's going to face at sub 23. In the future, sure... Overall, I love that we're continuing to use the Fifa dates to our advantage and bringing everybody we can. -Carrascal is fijo, but Gallardo must've requested he be left off for Libertadores. My hope is that this favor ensures a return and he'll be able to play the preolimpico. -Angulo's absence is interesting. He was another guy who underperformed at the sub 20 WC and hasn't done great in the sub 23 friendlies thus far. He's not playing at all for club, so this is definitely Reyes trying to see other options. -Love that the Caldas duo is back. -IT's a shame injuries have destroyed Benedetti's form at America. My hope is that he can use this tournament to trampoline back to his previous status.
Strong contender for captain after Atuesta. Reyes and Cuesta are a good backline...but I'm sad that other, older CBs in FPC are getting ignored...
Saw the goals in the morning. I confused with the date, otherwise I would've see the game, it started at 6 a.m. here. Nice to see that El Indio is finding himself very well in this team because in Nacional I see nothing in this player. Maybe he is more comfortable in the NT under Reyes. But as long as it works well, I don't complain. In general it seems like a good lineup, I like the combo of Marquez-Sandoval and the defense also looks good. Who is this Ruiz? Isn't Mier supposed to be the first GK? I also understood that Benedetti played very well.
I really like Ruiz, I mentioned him when he debuted for Equidad two years ago. He is very complete, tall (not premier League tall, just 6'2), good reflexes, good in the air. He is the Classic colombian GK mold, like Córdoba and Mondragón. He's currently warming the bench for DIM. Hopefully if González leaves he gets the chance.
I think he has earned that spot. He's been the starter for a while now and he's been solid. I think that's the Best way to describe him, Solid and trustworthy.

Nueva convocatoria. Yup. Benedetti being benched in Mexico could be a blessing in disguise. If he plays well in the Pre-Olympics he may be considered for the Senior team come March, (We need all the creative guys we can get considered on the squad.)
He'd have to maintain form at club, which I'm not too confident in. It's odd, he was in the worst form of his life during the last set of friendlies. Yet he played better for the sub 23 than I've seen him since he left Cali. And I've watched pretty much every minute he's played for America. Even when he has played well, he looks like a very different player with a very different game. It got to the point where I started wondering if I was mis-remembering the player, like I had built him up to be something he wasn't because he played for Cali. All he does for America is hover by the area and wait for counter attacks. His creativity is nonexistent. Now, I'm sure this is partly a tactical/coaching philosophy issue. In short, I hope he does really well in the preolimpico and gets the HELL out of America.
Queiroz has been known to bring in younger players when you least expect him to from what I have heard, so hopefully he impresses. And the way I see it the Sub 23 tournament alone could be enough to call him up because assuming we make it to the second stage he will be playing consistently until February 9th. By then I think Queiroz may already know in his head if he would be an asset for the March Qualifiers in such a short turn around. Even without playing much in Mexico in between then and those International dates.
I like this callup. I really think that Colombia has a great squad that could aim the first two spots. I just hope that we won't suffer from Reyes's decisions this time.
