he is 32, his stats fell off, his production is merely ok as a forward, and playing almost all their games he had 5 assists. he would be one of our most expensive players, a downgrade from elis on production and age. we missed the playoffs and are basically downgrading at the key positions. how is that supposed to work?

be real, the reason you do this is the "transfer fee" for a MLS trade is a useless player and roster bucks, not real money. in order to do this deal, we have to sell or release a DP. if sold, we bring in probably no less than $5-6m. so the amount of the incoming funds will greatly exceed the outgoing expense.

if manotas leaves and he signs for $1m that's a payroll wash. vs. elis that's a few hundred thousand more on payroll. you then get less player than what we had on a team that already can't make the playoffs. and since he played 30 games there is no injury excuse. his numbers are what they are. he is 32 and projecting sunshine days returning is a tad naive.

nope, this is a 2016 give bruin and barnes a raise move. what briefly worked was betting on youth. if you sell youth you should buy more. this is a dead end move. he won't have value when this is done. he won't help us win.

Soccer is a system game and we will play different than Minnesota. I could see him upping his stats. He is not that old and has some left in the tank. It's not a horrible move.

He was training and playing up in Minnesota.
Perhaps he just didn't find his happy feet living up there.
This move down here might be the right tonic for the man n his family.

i honestly checked out at the end of last season and wasn't paying the closest attention. that's around when he came in. i looked up his numbers and dude had 5 goals in 10 games and a goal every 130-140 minutes. that paces out to 15 goals if he played 30 games. he's 28, has some tread left. quintero initially was a bada$$ but based on last season's numbers we would be acquiring and then shedding the wrong people.

if they had a brain you go 442 with ramirez and manotas, both of whom have good strike rates, shed quioto, sell elis. if martinez is out of deal you let him go. rebuild the midfield and rely on the frontline strike rate. this is going nowhere if it continues to be all the money in the forwards -- such as it is -- and then tepid mids. we cannot afford world class mids to carry the team themselves, and if you hold them there is no plan B.

or you do 433 with memo ramirez manotas, same story.

sorry but i thought this was going to be change from how it's been.

MN scored more goals than we did, why are we pretending they hamstringed the guy? he didn't play someplace else. it's not a question how that league's numbers translate. he played in our conference on a team that scored a few more goals than we did and his numbers are what they are. his team went out first round.

"hope" would be more justified if it was like ramirez. yeah, he sat at his last club, but "his goals per game project out to......" this guy played almost every game and simply did what he did. expecting more is giving bruin and giles a raise and hoping that motivates them to produce more. i recall that theory was crocked by summer.

i expect he will be "exciting" or "entertaining" but be real, we already have that, just not often enough. elis on the ball is fun. elis on the ball isn't enough for playoffs. a couple of those chips might be fun to watch but in terms of the competition this is a 2016 move. low effort, limited expense. overpay for a late career guy. very montreal impact.

Soccer is the ultimate team sport. Super players have the least amount of impact in soccer than any other game that I can think of. It's all about the system. If his role is different then his production will be changed accordingly.

Plus, Tab would have wanted this deal and I have to imagine he knows just a bit about soccer so I'm sure he has an idea in mind for him.

    Agree.
I am banking on Senor Tabare having forgotten more about association football than I have ever known!

If and a big IF we are able to keep Elis, Ramos could go with 3 in the back and 4 in the mid with 3 up top, a 3-4-3 over his normally preferred 4-3-3.
    Something like this.

    ------------------Pena---------------Ramirez
    ----------------------------Quintero
    --------------Memo----------------------------Elis
    ---------------------Vera-----------Cabezas

    ----------Figueroa-------Struna-----------Bizama

    --------------------------Someone NEW!

I'll probably start a schedule thread when we get more info but word is that the 2020 season will start on February 29.

The off-season schedule looks like this so far:

November 11-13 - Trade window open
November 14 - last day to submit bona fide offers to out of contract players
November 19 - MLS Expansion draft (Houston is exempt from having players selected.)
November 21 - Club deadline to exercise options
    November 25 - Waiver draft
November 25 - Free agency opens for qualified players
    November 26 - Re-Entry Draft

    December 3 - Re-Entry Draft continues
    December 9 - CCL draw

January 11 - Preseason opens for CCL teams
January 18? - Preseason probably opens for all teams. This is a guess.

    February 18 - CCL starts.

They at least got him down under $1.5 mil because he's not a DP and I very much doubt they got him under $500k, so that means he is a TAM signing (which would require being under $1.5 mil).

Montreal hires Thierry Henry. To be honest, between Ramos and Henry I'd have rather had Henry.

Went to a Francophone city Mr. Handball Dribble did. Ramos went to a border State city with a powerful youth scene that has mostly gone under developed. I hear what you are saying but it worked out for both clubs. On paper that is. Results to come.

Of course at MLS HQ there is a device known as The Mechanism. Which knows the Fate of all. For which there is a calendar.

Just like I am sure the Dynamo have in the building someplace The Extruder, which receives inputs of fan passion, paid for at increasing prices, and spits out of the End Maw a goop that used to be a consistent bright orange but is now speckled with impurities and a faint faint peach.

Disagree with you there. What has Henry shown as a coach so far vs Tab? I'd rather take the gamble on Tab.

I'll give it a shot. Ramos developed as a coach in US Soccer, which has produced what globally notable head coaches so far? He commands respect in youth soccer ranks.

Henry spent two years developing in the Belgian national team system under Roberto Martinez, was an assistant at a senior World Cup, commands immediate global respect with players, has greater global reach in attracting players.

He's also played under and been influenced by coaching geniuses like Pep Guardiola.

Monaco was a hot mess before he got there, it is still a hot mess. The greatest coaches on Earth couldn't succeed there right now.

    That's fair.

Montreal isn't a hot mess but ain't exactly smooth sailing. Of course another coach capable of attracting top talent was Ruud Gullit and that was a disaster. I dont think Henry will have anywhere near the same problems but we'll see if he was overly ambitious or the beginning of a trend.

A similar coach, kind of, was Double B who flamed out at a hot mess of a club and has been amazing at LAFC.

Let me ask you, do you think Henry would be good for us as HC, given that our ownership is unlikely to pay to bring in the top talent he attracts?

Good question. Likely not a great fit, I mean at least Montreal is willing to spend real money and not just Garber bucks. He might actually bring fans to games, though. Would do a world of good for our attacking players.

Nashville has announced that their first MLS game is at home on February 29. There is a very good chance that the Dynamo will also start that weekend.

Correct! Season 25 can't get here fast enough!
Being a club from Las Americas I would keep our long season for the Supporters Shield run and MLS history but defiantly moving forward for the next 25 Seasons align MLS with Liga MX and the Argentina Primera fixture schedule concept as best as possible. Specifically considering how intense our Winters are up North and as well the Summer with any FIFA sponsored Summer Tournament, aka the World Cup every four Summers in mid June to mid July, as well as regional tournaments in the Gold Cup and Copa America every few Summers. Basically not play in late June to end of July, then in the Winter just avoid December and January, return to play in the later weeks of February. Can play SuperLiga 2.0 this Leagues Cup in late July though.

Dynamo add a mediocre defender. Feels like a Matt Jordan special.
