I love this one, I'd rather them use Charlotte but Tepper has been hard on this "One Carolina" slogan for his teams. I feel Carolina Colony would be a good name and say it every chance I get, a little faux Euro with a little American flavor. Both states were one Colony and Hornets form colonies as well. The crest you created would be cool with any name, especially with the Hornets/Hornets Nest and Crown for Charlotte. A palmetto and Cardinal (or dogwood flower) could be used if he goes that way. This has flexibility to it.
Don Garber: Charlotte Bid at 'Front of the Line' for MLS's 30th Team “There are three markets that we’re looking at, that our expansion committee has been engaging: Charlotte, Las Vegas and Phoenix. It’s fair to say that Charlotte has done a lot of work to move their bid really to the front of the line,” Garber said. https://www.si.com/soccer/2019/11/09/don-garber-mls-commissioner-state-league-expansion-cba-strike
The head of the Carolina Panthers’ biggest fan club is behind the creation of a grassroots group meant to garner support for a Major League Soccer team in Charlotte. Thanks to its well-known reputation, resources and large fan base, the Panthers fan group Roaring Riot gives an added oomph to the newly formed MLS group, Mint City Collective. The new fan group plans to launch its website Saturday. This weekend, it will make its public debut at the CONCACAF Gold Cup games at Bank of America Stadium. Forming such a fan group is a way to bring together leaders in the soccer community and demonstrate to the MLS that Charlotte can support a team, according to Roaring Riot founder Zack Luttrell and Jay Landskroener. He is a Charlotte Independence fan and former president of the local soccer fan group Jack’s Militia. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article231797973.html
Queen's Firm is older but Min City Collective has closer ties to the FO. Queen's Firm (from what I can put together) had a very active relationship with the Smith bid, at least to the point of being well informed and being able to gain some inside info on Smith's attempt to buy the Independence brand for his bid. I know that there are some folks in Jack's Militia who are beholden to the Independence but that organization has never had the capital to go MLS and basically crossed their arms on the first chance they got to be elevated to the 1st division. Hopefully all three can get behind the MLS bid.
Tepper may ask the city for millions in stadium upgrades for Major League Soccer bid https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article235431292.html Panthers seek up to $200M from city for MLS HQ, stadium upgrades https://www.bizjournals.com/charlot...ers-seek-up-to-200m-from-city-for-mls-hq.html Charlotte abuzz with talk of Major League Soccer, stadium changes https://www.wbtv.com/2019/09/25/charlotte-abuzz-with-talk-major-league-soccer-stadium-changes/
If tepper even gets 100 mil for this it should come off as a coup. Though precourt did slice up Austin pretty good
It won't be as bad since the money would come from a fund allocated for tourism and entertainment improvement. The argument that the money could serve other purposes is valid however.
I swear Carolina Colony FC/SC/AFC (or no "XC" at all) makes too much sense for the club and fits the One Carolina brand perfectly. You have the original Carolina Colony (literally one Carolina), it leaves room for a "Hornet's Nest of Rebellion" reference (Hornets form colonies), and it could be used to reference Meck Deck day as well.
League owners are expected discuss Charlotte's bid for the 30th team as part of regularly scheduled meetings in New York on Thursday. https://www.bizjournals.com/charlot...l-announce-decision-on-expansion-team-in.html
MLS expansion fee reportedly going up to $300m-325m (from $200m) https://www.bizjournals.com/charlot...id-tepper-is-likely-to-pay-a-record-300m.html
Steve Harrison @Sharrison_WFAE A formal announcement is expected on Friday that MLS is awarding new franchise to Charlotte, according to two people familiar with the negotiations. MLS Board of governors will discuss "potential expansion markets, including Charlotte," on Thursday.
Alexandra Elich @AlexandraWCCB My source also says Tepper has gotten a definite indication from MLS commission that Charlotte would be a perfect place for soccer. Part of the ask is practice facility, headquarters and changes to BOA stadium all to accommodate MLS. @WCCBCharlotte
It sucks that Tepper buying Independence and taking them to MLS is not under consideration. Waste of a great name.
The problem I run into with the Independence brand, a lot of people think I am referring to the local HS when I say the name rather than the USL club. I like the crest/branding but I do feel like the name should be something different.
