Gotta give it to Iron Maiden, saw them a few years ago and the energy those people show on the stage is astounding
I saw Iron Maiden. I think that was the last one. They were way better than I expected at this point. Well, maybe it was Wilson Phillips I saw last. Doesn't matter. I never pay to see a concert. At least I haven't for many years. Both of those were this year, paid by others. yeah!
Iron Maiden are coming to Dubai next year.. might go and see them. Seen them before there back in 2006... who knew some 14 years later they'd still be "troopering" along...
Maroon 5 - Qatar, December 19, 2019 This is one of a series of concerts put on here in Qatar for the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup that includes Katy Perry, Cheb Khaled, and a few other regional acts. Again, not a huge fan, but not much other choice here in Doha...
Hall & Oates at the Washington State Fair. Concise evening of their hits, plus one that I think is one John's personal favorites. Honestly the best part of the show was the videos they showed before from the 'Live at Daryl's House' series. Which made me seek out additional videos from that series. Next scheduled concert is Zac Brown Band at the Tacoma Dome this October.
Chuck Mead at Hernando's Hide-A-Way, Saturday night 10/10/20 It can be found on youtube - show starts at the 6:20 mark. Man, it's been awhile - I had to go to the third page to find this thread.
Allman Betts Band - Lafayette's in Memphis (2/3/21) They did two shows back-to-back; we had tickets for both. ..........I have a wonderful, patient, wife. That's not me talking - we were up front. (God, I hope I don't sound like that.)
Notadj_Maria Houndstooth, Toronto, ON June 17, 2021 Houndstooth is a local coffeeshop/bar, rehearsal space with a wonderful, eclectic cast of characters usually hanging around, including a resident metal band that lives upstairs. It’s one of the handful of places I’ve made a point of supporting throughout the pandemic, as they do a great job of providing a platform for the grassroots music scene in the west end of the city. On short notice I found out my favourite college radio DJ was playing a set last night, so I cancelled my plans and headed down for a night of New Wave, Post Punk, No Wave, World/Afrobeat goodness - and I was not disappointed. Firstly, about getting to see a live set for the first time in almost eight months, and secondly for a wonderful serpentine flow for five hours of everything from middle-school-dance era bangers, to early 80s New York No Wave dance goodness to rare groove Afrobeat awesomeness all served in tasty 12” form. So. Damn. Awesome.
Went to the Foo Fighters at MSG on Sunday night. Quite the cathartic experience. And Dave Chappelle singing Creep, that was quite unexpected but fun...
The John Denver Airport Conspiracy Baby G, Toronto ON March 19, 2022 This was my second time seeing this band, I caught them last fall prior to the Omicron lockdown at a bar called the Monarch Tavern, which was an excellent show - though I was far more leery of crowds then and it was my first indoor event in a couple of years which affected my enjoyment. Despite the situation over the winter, it’s obvious that the band has upped their game since then, getting named in Exclaim! media’s Class of ‘21 indie bands didn’t hurt - though I had to miss that show as part of that honour last month due to work obligations, so I wasn’t gonna miss this show. Baby G is a slightly larger venue that holds a couple hundred people, and the band was in top form playing a blistering set of songs - from their album “Something’s Gotta Give!” with a couple new tracks sprinkled in - for an hour of rollicking upbeat energy, leaving me wishing for another hour. Highlight for me was feeling the energy from the crowd, for the first time in a long while. In particular the four young women near me (dressed a la hippie chicks from Dazed And Confused) who were slam dancing during the finale of my favourite song of theirs “The Lab”. I’ve seen plenty of hippie chicks, and lots of slam dancing, but never the two together before, so I left with a smile.
Daniel Champagne Was unfamiliar with him and his music. Played here last night. Last night's soundcheck. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1256360991800182
François K World of Echoes Sub Division, Toronto ON October 16, 2022 My neighbour has partnered with Francois K for his World Of Echoes properties (twitch streams/radio shows, online community and one-off live events) and brought him into town for a good vibes, and wonderfully eclectic private show at Sub Division, a small venue downtown. They really nailed the underground dance vibe experience I remember from the heyday of my clubbing days in the mid 90s, right down to the "no phones on the dancefloor" to give it that pre-smartphone era feel. I was fortunate, not only to see a legend in an intimate setting, but was able to spend some time with them both over a coffee, and as happenstance would have it, shared an experience at a psychedelic art exhibit around the corner in my hood. Really humbling to have conversations about music with an industry pioneer of NY dance music scene, producer of some of my favourite bands, and essentially a really gifted teacher who has been doing a graduate-level DJ course via his twitch streams. If you're interested - last nights show will be uploaded in the next day or so here.
Duane Betts, earlier this month. Nicki Bluhm opened and later performed a few songs with him. This is from that show.
Mark Edgar Stuart and the Blueshift Ensemble - "Remote Control" https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=681078946736141
Pentatonix was in town this past weekend. I was fairly indifferent, but Ms Robot wanted to go, so we went.....Glad we did. Song starts at the 2:00 mark. Being a Christmas show, they obviously did this one.
Don Bryant and The Bo Keys last night. He didn't perform this song (this clip is from a few months ago in the lobby of the same venue); he actually left the stage after a little over an hour due to a health issue. I'm sure this would have been his last song of the night.
Robbie Williams, live in Doha. He was there for the World Cup. Not much else since then as Qatar has been gone back to same old same old since then...
